Just returned my CTEK MSX 7.0 battery charger for a refund.
This is the 2nd such unit I have returned in 3 years.
These units are warranted for 5 years.
What most people are unaware of is that CTEK ( Sweden) will NOT return monies paid to the end user. This means the unit has to be returned to the vendor. If this happens to be a none official seller of CTEK products, or purchased 2nd hand then tough Mammary glands. I was lucky in that I purchased both from a recognised outlet.
These products are very popular....I thought the above information may be useful if thinking of buying one.

I have CTEK-MX7.0
It's been working great so far w/o issues.

I believe the new ones are chinese made, not the same build quality like the previous model MX7000.

What was your problem with 7.0?

I have the 7.0 and as above not had any issues in a couple of years. Would also be interested to know what the issue was.

I thought it was aalways the case that your guarantee was with retailer not the manufacturer?

One unit was returned due to only the 12v supply LED being lit.
The other unit was returned due to only the power LED Being lit.
Both units had very little use. Both used only in the maintenance mode.
Both used on 5.0 /5.5 litre cars both whilst in garage.
CTEK makes it plain that items should be returned to place of purchase along with the warranty ( after downloading it from their website )
It is also plain that CTEK will NOT accept units returned by end users.
Rather a poor show I think, these units are not particularly cheap.

I’ve also had two give up the ghost over the years. Not over impressed as they’re supposed to be a premium product.

When number three turns it’s toes up I’ll probably buy a cheap one which will no doubt last for ever.

Likewise.....number two was the last CTEK.

Looking at the above it seems that I shouldn't bother with a CTEK !!

Any advice from other users.
Anyone got any other good trickle chargers that they could recommend or should I give CTEK a whirl.
What model.

TIA.

I've had a CTEK MS5 for 6yrs, used every week up til I sold the CLS.Never had a problem. Generally a very reliable make IMHO. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Have had 2 CTEK chargers for 5/6 years, never had a problem with them, they do the job

Depends on the wording of the guarantee, I would think. CTEK's website suggests it is via the retailer.

Warranty

The manufacturer doesn't get to decide who is liable, it's all covered by consumer rights law after 2015 & sale of goods act before then.
"
If your product develops a fault, your rights to make a claim and get your money back lie with the retailer who you purchased the product from.

Don’t be fobbed off by retailers who encourage you to go to manufacturers in the first six months. Remember, it’s down to you – you have the right to pursue a faulty goods claim with the retailer rather than a warranty or guarantee claim with the manufacturer.

If you want to make a claim using your manufacturer guarantee or warranty, your route to claiming would be to your warranty provider, who is often the manufacturer."

My only comment would be that not all CTEK chargers appear to be the same reliability wise. As you go up in charging capacity the charging facilities they provide seem to increase perhaps indicating more complex internal software/hardware to go wrong ? The model that consistently gets good reviews is the the MXS 5.0- in this case perhaps simpler is better?
This isn't a bad intro to the whole subject of battery/charger / fitting for the un-initiated

My cousin and I have been running the MXS 5.0 for many years, still good as day 1.

C-TEK is either a hit or miss.
My two chargers has so far been hits.

I use a CTEK MXS5 on my SL500, no issues in 2 years of regular use.
