Cut to size window tints.

Looks like a good option for diy tinting, however the cost works out to be around the same as having your glass professionally

Film tinted.

It looks like a non-stick type, therefore the windows that open will still leave the plastic in place, hence the up to 1.8mm thickness.

I use these guys, avoid 2 ply for the rear windows. Its really hard to shrink the film in the curved. 1 ply works better with low setting on the heat gun.

Mine has factory dark glass on the rear side windows....I really like it but it's personal taste. The previous owner had tinted the front side windows to an illegal level... so I removed those straight away. Merc factory tint on the front windows comes at the legal limit so any further tinted would be illegal. The dark rear tint helps keep the car cooler if you park it the right way around and stop it being so embarrassing if you have ugly kids! In the trade we used to call that option "ugly kid glass"!

Not the best pic but I'm on the rattler to that there London at the moment!

Reading up further on the type of tints I provided the link for I'm not so sure there for my liking. I don't want to have the rear windows lowered to have a piece of dark film in place that is rather (tacky) in my opinion.

The main two reasons to have privacy tints or glass what ever you want to call it. Is, it keeps them light fingerd horrible little vile shit bags from looking in your vehicle to thieve something that doesn't belong to (them) 😡.

Secondly which has been mentioned above. It helps keep the interior cooler in the hotter months. It has its purposes. It's Definitely not to make the car more (Gangster) lol. I'll leave that to the younger crowd and the car in question is about as much gangster as a pro bowls player 😉.

I'm sure you do but to those that may not, even with tinted windows, try not to leave lighter-coloured bags, stuff or even empty bags, old jackets etc behind the tinted windows or anywhere on show as the crooks may think there is something in there they could make money from, eat etc.

On the odd occasion, we do have to leave a bag, or shopping bag in the car especially if I've backed the gle back up against the wall, we leave it in the rear footwell and then go to another shop in the shopping area/precinct/etc. Best never to leave anything on display even small change as it's going to cost the parasites nothing to smah and grab all within a split second and you are left with the bill/trouble of getting the damage repaired etc.

Agreed, the rear load cover is also very handy but with that pulled shut its still an obvious location for valuables in the car. It's also handy for my work tolls and stuff. So privacy glass would be really helpful, as also been mentioned it also has good benefits in the hotter months.

I definitely think I will have some sort of privacy tints fitted to this estate. Even if it's just the tailgate glass and the quarter window sections that are visible looking into the tailgate area.

I had my back and rear side windows tinted on my E class. Nothing illegal but helped keep the car cooler in hot weather and a bit of privacy.
Nothing gangster about it at all. Cost me £170 in 2019.

You can go completely black on the rear windows.....legal tinting limits only apply to the screen and front side windows.

I suspect the tinting company who do the fitment, use a product/material that doesn't effect the rear heated screen and any radio Ariel signals in the quarter glass that is in the rear glass?

The film doesn't affect any signals or the heated rear window.

My E55 had illegally dark tints on the front side windows when I bought it. Never did get an MOT fail or a stop until it was removed.

The metallic films are the ones that effect radio signals, most window tint professionals don't use them anymore for this reason. They use dyed films instead. The metalic tinted films are mainly used in commercial buildings, they're also slightly more expensive from dyed films but less than chameleon films. 👍
