I have Mercedes DAB radio, does anyone else have problems with the signal - dropping out etc.
Thanks

Yes, DAB signal isn't great, and with DAB in Mercedes it goes quiet if the error rate on the signal goes to high.

Different Merc models definitely have different quality in-built antenna - and my view is the W212 Saloon antenna isn't that great certainly with the NTG4 system. They changed the antenna amplifier system for NTG4.5 but I haven't really compared that to others.

Thanks Richard,is it worth changing the antenna amplifier system then, or trying to get Mercedes to do it.
The car is still under warranty

I don't think you can put the newer antenna amps into the older cars - all the wires will be the wrong length

How often do you get drop-outs ? And where are you

Worth asking the MB dealer to "fix it" whilst under warranty though

Richard

Thanks, Nearly all the time Richard - in fact it is a pain so do not use it as often as i should.
Based in North Yorkshire

Mine doesn't drop out but repeats itself briefly as it changes signal area. Annoying so I use FM mostly.

Mine just loses signal completely
My daughter has Ford C Max and has no issues

I'd be telling Mercedes dealer to sort it out (with the evidence that the C max works fine in your area showing that there is decent signal there).

It could be that there is an issue with the antenna amp or the tuner !!!

Cheers

Richard

PS - NTG4.5 systems have the newer dual tuner version, so I assume that is what Brian WH is seeing, whereas older W212/W207 have the single tuner system so you get interuptions - although I think i'd prefer interruptions over repeats..

Thanks again Richard, will make an appointment at the dealer and let you know how I get on.

How did you get on at the dealers - I have the same problem.

Bump.....

Hi Guys,
I have similar issue with DAB drop out, along with once recently in FM.
Generally good signal area, inside M25 etc etc....

I was just wondering in there were any updates for this thread?

Cheers
R

I have been deliberating whether to have DAB installed in my 2013 E class Coupe which has NTG4.5 by one of our well known site sponsors, the cost is rather expensive but thought what the Hell , when I read about peoples problems with DAB I have second thoughts about having it done , is this a Mercedes thing ? as the DAB on a BMW loan car I had last year before I moved back to Mercedes was in fact faultless !!

Had DAB in several cars and never had a problem including 2 Mercedes. In my current car it just works. Once in a while it will drop for maybe a second like it's moving from one signal to another. Problem with forums is we never post up saying things are fine!

I am not able to receive the major stations that I normally frequent, so don't bother & just use FM, which I find good quality on my 2011 build E estate in Norfolk

Its like this for me too. 2014 S212.

Mine drops out on one station, smooth radio, but I loose the signal for the same station on fm as well, radio 2 is fine, as is radio 5
I just assumed I was loosing the signal for smooth radio in lincolnshire

Dave,
Have you tried the Absolute 70s 80s 90s ?

No I have not, but i will give it a try, is it similar to smooth radio?

In as much as its older tunes etc....but the point was I often listen to one of those three on DAB and noticeably it drops out on those channels. It drops out on others also but I use those 3 most....
