I have a 2014 SL400 (R321) which has the COMAND 4.7 head unit. The current DAB performance is absolutely rubbish with dropouts all the time.

I need to upgrade it to DAB+, but am not sure what the best option is. Comand Online have quoted me £279 for a fix, but are a little bit cagey about what it actually is...

I don't want any stick on antennas or anything that has shite in the glovebox, cables in the centre console etc... so does anyone have any real facts about the best option to fix the DAB on this HU? I do want the stations displayed on the main screen. I am pretty handy and will be fitting a CarPlay module in the next week or two, so would like to fix the DAB while I have things apart.

(I don't even care if it can't pick up more than 99 stations, I just want Planet Rock and a few others)

Thanks in advance for any information....

I think that a firmware update would be the first step? Or is your unit already on the latest firmware? And, potentially this is what Comand Online quoted you for?

Doesn't the carplay module you're going to fit give you "shite in the glovebox and cables in the center console" though? The DAB on mine works well so just a thought, you don't have a dash cam or similar interfering with the dab signal, do you? On a different vehicle even a QI phone charger interfered with the dab giving a lot of drop outs.

See post number 3, i had the same update on my 204 and it cured the drop outs years ago

Mercedes might do it for free when/if you next service your car with them.

The CarPlay module will be full hidden between the back of the COMAND unit and the glove box, so there will be no wires at anywhere that can be seen. It's wireless CarPlay as well, but I may run a dedicated Lightning cable to let me charge the phone as well. I will see about that when I install the module.

I have no dash cam or charger one anything on this car, so really nothing to interfere with the DAB - but I am not sure about what firmware the system is running, so there may be scope for a firmware upgrade.

I'll have to have a look and see. Does anyone know the latest firmware/software rev for the NGT4.5/4.7 units?

I am not really intending on have the car serviced by a main dealer. Probably a local indie shop.

But I will certainly try to find out what the last firmware version is, see what's on my car and then call MB and see what they would charge me for an update...
