Dashboard light

Just popped out to the shops and realised that the section of dash to the right of the steering wheel was looking abit dark!!
Its the section where you turn the lights etc on, is this section normally illuminated as im now starting to doubt myself??
If so how do i go about replacing the bulbs in it?

That section of the dash isn’t illuminated, it dose look like it should be, but its not, the symbols are just painted on.

Thanks.. only had the merc 2 months, obviously havent driven it much at night!!
