Dashboard rattle 2008 C Class

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had the same trouble as me. My dashboard rattles for no reason at all,on smooth roads as well as more uneven surfaces. I have traced the noise to somewhere around the center speaker grill. I've taken the grill off, sprayed lubricating oil around and its still the same.

If i apply pressure to the edge of the speaker surround,, the noise dissapears. I then tried to wedge a piece of metal between the dashboard and the structure beneath but there was no change. My next step is to put self tapping screws into the dash in the speaker grill recess but i'm not optimistic.
Please help before i trade the car in for a vectra....

I remember playing chase the rattle on a diesel previously ............ while not a perfect fix finding a good radio station that you like is a lot less painful.

Fixed with a jelly belly wedged inbetween the dash and windscreen.

The dash rattle had that seemed to come from anywhere on the dash on my E-Cabrio (same chassis as W204 C) was down to how the A-pillar trim meets with the top of the dash, like the complete upper section a gap kept appearing from them from the general flexing of the car/chassis. Dealer found this after umpteen trips to have it looked at, fixed it by putting some felt down at the join where the gap appeared which was only 1mm or so but still, sorted now.
