Following a door mirror joust in Cornwall earlier this year I decided to invest in a dashcam. Given very low annual mileages I didn't want to go to a big expense and, more importantly, it had to be small and discrete. I bought an Apeman C420 which is tiny - so small I can't see it mounted behind my rear view mirror. Seems to work fine, and with a suction mount, I can easily move it from one car to another. Only downside is it doesn't come with an SD card, but I had a spare one lying around anyway. It may be worth a look as an intro to dashcams?

My local branch of Halfords only stock Nextbase dash cams. No other brands.
£30 fitting to hardwire the camera.

I think it was online only through eBay - a sort of "Our new eBay store" thing for Halfords hence the incentive.
I hate eBay with a passion but I couldn't ignore that saving!

I have the Nextbase 612 in my SL under the rear view mirror, very happy. I also have it showing the kph speed on the screensaver which is useful as i drive on the wrong side of the road in France

Garmin dash 55 is very compact and has some features which you can turn on or off. Downside of the very small rear display screen is that it's too small to read the local speed limit. Very easy to move from car to car if you get a second magnetic mount. Mine is shared between my R230 and my wife's Fiesta
Wife and kids/santa buying so not much more than £100 really unless I get spoilt ;-).

A long way from Essex unfortunately.My son in law got his own company based in yorkshire huddersfield so if u want details he does wide variety also fits too

I don't think you can beat the quality of the Viofo A119 v2 for the price.
The firmware is not great but once set up you never have to use it again.

Try and buy a unit with a polarising lens. This will stop a lot of the reflections between the windscreen and dash top

I have Nextbase on both my cars, both hard wired and with detachable mag mounts.
I was involved in an accident with my Jaguar XF which was written and at the scene the Police were saying knock for knock until I showed them the footage following which the driver was charged at the scene with careless driving.
I upgraded from the 312 to the 512 in my CLS and now have the 312 in my SL.
