E class 2.1 diesel 2011
Hello everyone

I hope you can help. I have a 2011 E class 2.1 diesel

A few weeks ago, I noticed that after turning the key there was a slight delay before the engine cranked over, then a few days later my car battery died, and I had it replaced.

Since then, I have replaced the battery in my key too and now the delay between turning the key and the engine cranking has increased to 10 seconds, it’s as if the key might not be being recognized.

Any ideas??? Thanking you in advance

My only suggestion is double check your new battery in the key, it’s not that unusual to have new batteries that are low in voltage.

The key batteries do not play a part in the key being recognised or the car starting. The key batteries are only there to power the remote locking transmitter.

The imillobilser circuit in the key is energised by an induction loop in the steering column. It is possible that there is a problem with the ignition switch.
