W210 320cdi - I'm getting significant blowback past the injector holder on cylinder 2. The clamp wasn't that tight when I came to look and I've tightened it it as hard as I dare but there's still significant blow-back. Any thoughts?

Remove the injector, clean up, recut the seat if necessary, fit new heat shield, refit the injector using the proper grease.

Also make sure you use a new bolt andf make sure the thread is clean.

Thanks - though I'm not sure I've seen a heat shield. I know petrol engines inside out (I race Alfas) but know nothing about diesels.

So I've done the following:

- removed plastic cover
- disconnected the fuel line
- removed clip and the flexi pipe from on top
- diconnected electrical supply
- loosened screw and removed injector holder

I don't remember seeing a heat shield? And grease for what?

I can replace the screw no problem (apart from trying to buy one in Inverness on a Saturday afternoon....). I don't have a seat cutting tool (I see they aren't that cheap) - am I best just getting the local Merc specialist to do this for me? I'm assuming that I'm not going to do too much damage by running as-is for a day or two?

Thanks

It WILL need re-cutting.

If you have not got the tool, borrow one or get a specialist to do it.

The grease is for the shaft of the injector

Item 107 is the heat shield.

Cool - really appreciate your help both of you. I think for the sake of simplicity I'll just get the local specialist to do it - doesn't sound like a long job.
