Diesel rail sensor

I'm probably in the wrong section but here goes. I've a 09 e220cdi. Great car. 250k miles on the clock and running very well. I had a job done on the injectors about 2 years ago so they're OK. Sometimes the car " chokes " which can be dangerous especially when overtaking and no acceleration. No black smoke coming out, emissions are quite low.
Now, OBD shows a fault with the diesel rail sensor. Someone else is certain that the problem is with the diesel pump regulator. What would the experts ( seriously) think? Also would anyone have the part numbers? I know I could take the sensor off and read it, but it'd need to be torqued back on. Thanks for reading this and hopefully.....

It needs proper testing with a Star diag machine. The fault code is not enough.
