C220 W203 Diesel Auto Estate Old Gold
Hi everyone, just joined the forum. We have a 2002 C220 Diesel Auto that we’ve been running for a while, but now catching up with some routine maintenance. The gearbox has been playing up recently, I did a bit of investigation tonight and found oil in the TCM connectors, so I have got to replace the bush at the weekend. How do I clean the oil out of the wiring loom without replacing it all, or if I change the bush does gravity and contact cleaner come to the rescue?

While fiddling around under the bonnet this evening I also noticed this pipe work had been disconnected and bunged up with a bolt. I could always just reconnect and give it a try, but thought best to ask first. Any guidance as to what this is for (I know my way round 1920s cars but this car although 22 years old is a bit modern for me!). Is the disconnection and blanking off a common thing on these cars? Not had any warnings on the dash despite being disconnected.

Many thanks
Tim

Many thanks. It was probably disconnected for a reason, so rather than just reconnecting and giving it a go, which might pop all sorts of fault codes, it’s probably best to just replace the EGR and then reconnect. They don’t look like they are too bad price wise.
I daren’t say how many 1000 miles we’ve done with it like that!!

I'd leave it , will run better and less soot to end up in the engine oil and combine with crancase oil vapour gunking up the inlet manifold etc .

Unlikely any fault codes as early mechanical vacume controlled egr that didn't have to be monitored by the ecu till 2003 .
