Hey guys; a friend is considering buying this CLS.

Does anybody on here recognise it and know anything about it?

Thanks in advance.

Scrap that, it was a wreck. Avoid this vehicle.

Brakes and discs need replacing, oil leaks, sludge inside the oil filer cap, Error codes on the ABS and airbag system, uneven wear on the tyres, to name but a few.

It would make a good project, but needs a good few thousand spent on it.

The thing I find strange about the cls of this era is that sat nav was not standard equipment,I know the sat nav is not great but if you are going to buy one get a full spec one.

It has it.

Ive not seen a CLS 55 without the Comand. Ive not seen many C55's without it to be honest.

Even when you buy on the face of it , a "good"
CLS55 , it'll generally need some TLC more so due to age

I walked into my example knowing I had at least £1000 to spend on getting some things ironed out - and it was a very healthy car with only 75k

Hold out for the best example your friend can find - value seems to have dropped if eBay is a barometer of price ...so patience is the key here

A £1000 spent on a car with only 75k miles, pretty poor reliability. My CLK has not been that reliable, broken springs, gearbox, thermostat etc, but I love it.

Not really, engine mounts, ball joints and brakes would eat that up straight away. All of which are consumables for any M113k engined car.

I don't understand what you mean ? The only
issue I've had has been the alternator , all
The other spend was preventative maintainence and doing things to get the car upto "my" standard for peace of mind

The point I was trying to make is , they can be expensive to maintain so hold out for a good one , because even then you'll find yourself having to do smaller bits and Bob's to get the car the way you want it

The break pump, the key module thing aside.. they are robust cars. Its wear and tear to brakes, tyres, ball joints etc. that eats into your wallet more than anything. But this is general things that go wrong regardless or wear down at least. I'd buy a 'bad' CLS55 if it was for a good price, because when put right they are bullet proof and immense motor. Even good examples will need TLC and some £££s set aside. These are almost 12 year old cars and will have been around the block a bit in terms of how they have been driven.

Mine is an 06 with 75k also. I've had it about 6 months and I love it to bits. When I bought it I expected to spend a bit to get it as I wanted, but it was only silly ( but still quite expensive) things...3 Key less go door hand!es and 2 parking sensors. Both of which were the only problems I had on my w211 E500 as well. I love keyless go but that's 6 handles I've had on two cars. So i guess I've spent about £1500 on the CLS and its now both perfect and glorious.

I've spent about 3.5K on mine in total since owning it (3 years now) and that includes a service, tax, MOTs, 4 budget tires as I don't drive it that much and I like my car to scare me a little, a key module thing and a spare key, some suspension work like ball joints, link arm etc. Also wheel refurbs and calipers done red recently.

The brake pump went a week or so after I bought it and MB and the dealer repaired it at no cost to me, 2.5K job.

At the moment my door handle needs replaced for keyless go to work on my door and it probably needs some brake pads all-round. It looks like a pressure map sensor needs replaced as well.

MB said the rear brake pipes are starting to corrode too.

I don't know how much it would cost to make it A1 mechanically and electronically, but it drives superb.

It could do with some of the age related marks and scuffs taken out as well. I know a good repair/painter thankfully who also does alloy wheel refurbs and for a couple of hundred quid will make you rcar look spot on without a full respray.

In total, given the car, to spend just over 1K on ownership per year is pretty good going I'd say. I'll be getting any work that needs done done to it after the New Year before I sell. If I had a garage I'd keep it and spend time and money on making it the best non modified original example in the UK which wouldn't take much money IMO.

Great cars man, such a machine. I love mine!

Admittedly that should have gone above the oil leaks, gunk and error codes as a reason to walk away lol.

I had this car in my workshop today
It's a nice car
It has a bit of rust on the inside of the front discs which 55k owners know happens.
An auxiliary battery and that's it pretty much.

The slight Mayo in the oil filler is from not being driven and a couple of short journeys.

Don't know who inspected the vehicle for you but it really doesn't need thousands spent.

Cars that sit around get low voltage codes in control modules

I think I'd got off lightly if that was all I had to spend in the same scenario!

I can vouch for that.

What is the price of this car btw?

Since I've owned mine the most I've seen a CLS55 go for is 16.5K and the least 9K.

If I was buying now, I'd pay 13K max for a FSH model under 90K miles with a high spec and in very good condition.

It's very fairly priced at £11.8k i think the op was expecting it to be in new condition!

Is there a link to the advert?
