Hi All,

Another one for you.
GL420, keyless entry. Without pulling the door handle or pressing a button, grab the handle and as long as the key is in your pocket the door will unlock.
Except the offside rear door. The sensor in the handle or the button doesn't appear to be working.
Are the door cards easy to get off, anyone experienced this before? I'm thinking cable issue maybe.
Any advice would be great.
Cheers
Stu

Taking the door card off won't help. You need to get a new one from the dealer. £150+ and VAT. Ask beforehand if they supply them ready painted.
Water leaks into the electrical contacts behind the rubber in the handle.

Thank you, I'll give them a call. How do youget the handle off? Can it be done from outside the car or do youneed the card off?

No need to remove the door card. On some models the door rubber adjacent to the handle is peeled away to reveal a hole for a screwdriver with a torx bit to undo the handle.
This video shows an ML handle removal so it may be the same as this. Remember you will have a keyless connection to disconnect before taking the handle off.

If you don't feel confident enough to do this, an MB specialist (indy) is your friend. Shouldn't take more than 10 mins to replace.

This shows replacing a GLE door handle. Note the screw inside which comes out first when removing.

I am going to guess the wires in the handle itself has chaffed through

Thats brilliant thank you for your advice and the links. I suspect it could be the wiring harness as when you pull the handle it appears to be bobbing around in the handle. But now I know this I shall have a look.

If it is the wires rubbed through, its easy enough to solder new wires/wire back in place
