The driver's door mirror on my R500 has never adjusted electrically, although it folds/unfolds perfectly. Today, I thought I'd have a fiddle to see if I could find out what the problem was - I expected it to be a duff motor. Not knowing any different (there's a moral there somewhere.....) I applied a bit of force (!) to the glass....and it popped out, bringing with it a metal clip about 2" long. Gulp. ![Eek! ](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f631.png)
Anyway, I unplugged the 3 connections to the glass, and then spotted the connector for the motor hanging down, unplugged. I plugged it back in, it works fine! I did read on one of the US-based forums that a guy had exactly the same thing - no apparent reason for it. The previous owner of my car says nothing's ever been done to the door mirrors. I can only assume its vibrated loose, but it seemed a very tight fit for that to happen.
So, back to the glass. My 'applying force' has broken one of the plastic lugs that hold the 2 spring clips in place. Bugger. The glass is back in place now, it seems secure but vibrates a bit without the clip. I've just found a used one (heated, auto-dim) on eBay for £40, which is a bargain as MB want 6 times as much!![Eek! ](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f631.png)
Going back to the 'moral' I mentioned earlier....if I'd looked on the WIS, I'd have seen that, for heated, auto-dim glass, the removal procedure is different - the complete mirror cover has to be unclipped and removed first, then everything's nice and exposed. Ah well.![Roll Eyes  ](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f644.png)
