DPF instant MOT fail

The 646 in the C220 did not have a DPF, it meets Euro4 only, the later 651 did. However the 646 in the E did have a DPF sometimes.

Mine is a 646 none-DPF. I'm not too worried about these changes as my car doesn't smoke, the engine is in good condition and it gets a good blast down the M6 on the way to the MOT place anyway.

Visions of MOT stations inundated with failed cars awaiting recovery!

Post up your vin and someone will check for you*, but as I said before a printout from an MB dealer preferably on their headed stationery to give it an "air of authenticity " might be better to present to the MOT testing station in case of doubt. The MB dealer might ask you to supply proof of car ownership/ identity if you request this- they can be sticky that way sometimes.

* if the car was not supplied new to you there's always the possibility its had its DPF gutted/removed by a previous owner despite being fitted originally- this could also possibly apply to any EGR valve blanking/defeat/removal also.
Hi thanks for the info

Vin is wdb2112062a941928

As a check is your car OBSIDIAN BLACK ?
According to the EPC your car is not fitted with a DPF SA 474

Yes, obsidian black is correct. No DPF is great news. Thanks for your help Grober

I'd love to see how they try to stop me from leaving the premises with MY car. :D
I don't think you will be stopped as the MOT station are not enforcers of the law but you will be driving your vehicle illegally on the road and the MOT station may report you but who knows! I doubt the online systems are updated quick enough for you to be caught on ANPR either.

They won't have to. They can just call the police and give them your Reg , VIN number and address and report you for driving an uninsured vehicle. No MOT...no insurance. Easy.
Or simply just not give your keys back.

That's a thought. But I think it will be more like. 'OK sir off you go, your car has been entered into the system as having failed the MOT as a result of a dangerous fault. Every single MOT station in the UK now has this on record. Have a nice day and good luck getting it MOT'd somewhere else'

'NEXT !....'

If they said that to me I wouldn't be able to stop laughing. Since when do the police here do anything quick? By the time they got round to looking into this, my car would probably have passed its MOT. :D This is all hypothetical of course

Anyway...my local MOT stations will pass just about anything :D

why would you want to drive around in a car with faults anyway. Just keep up to date with maintenance and you won’t need to worry about mot time ;)

The police wouldn't have to anything quickly, you would be driving around in a car without an MOT that had been taken off the road as 'dangerous' and without insurance. it would catch up with you in the end. I agree that if you have a friendly MOT garage (as I do) they go the extra mile to get your car through if it is (for example) border line on emissions etc. , but none who wanted to stay in business would pass car after car with dangerous faults. My friend with the garage and 2 MOT centres has recently become much more vigilant with his employees and the standard of work they carried out. That change came about after seeing the company directors jailed after that trucks brakes failed on the big hill going down into Bath Spa killing a little girl ,her gran and 3 men in a taxi. That is local to us and hit a nerve with him and how letting 'dangerous' vehicles out of his workshops could land him in jail. By the way he is now one of those garages that will not let you supply your own parts. The trade magazines are full of legal warnings against the practice , especially when it involves brake parts.

It seems a bit odd to me that my potentially dirtier pre-dpf may have a longer lifespan than a potentially cleaner dpf equipped car purely down to the harshness of the mot and whether or not its cost-effective to repair a dpf mot failure.

It may make a pre dpf more desirable than a dpf. or am I reading this all wrong here?

You are correct. Next year when someone (who is in the know) is looking for a couple of grand's worth of diesel car to purchase they will want one manufactured pre-DPF and anyone selling such a thing would be wise to state in the advert 'Pre-DPF' just as people do when a car falls into a lower VED price range due the date it was manufactured. So in theory 2 virtually identical models, one with and one without DPF will have a different price point....That is until the government change the rules again.

Pre MOT is the way to go if you are in doubt about passing the real MOT.
I thought the rule about if it fails you don't have a valid MOT regardless if the old MOT has any time left was in place now and has been for a while. This started when it all became electronic and online for all to see as a new test replaces any existing one regardless of outcome.
!

Whatever the true position is here the on-line facility that lets you check a vehicles' MOT status does not show an invalid MOT until expiration.

I know this because a friend left a car for testing last week and it failed. The work has not been carried out yet (they are on holiday and in no rush so the garage will fit it in before they return) yet the previous MOT is still showing on the Gov.Uk website as valid until March 23rd

That’s good news at least they can move the car to and from the garage if needed and won’t be pulled

Lack of MOT does NOT invalidate insurance .

You need insurance first and foremost before you can drive your cat to a pre arranged MOT test , and the insurance is still in force to drive home in the event of a failure , even though you might well be committing an offence due to the vehicle being in some way unroadworthy .

Or simply just not give your keys back.
Other than for non payment of your bill , they can't lawfully do that .
