Dpf normal reading Vito w639

Regarding the OP's original question, one of the DPFs on my OM629 was showing 102% full. It regenerated on the next run, so maybe there is some tolerance. I wasn't getting any smoke, though.

Stop Press: I've just checked it again, and that same DPF is showing 0% soot content. The ash contents haven't risen (from 1% and 7%. left and right) in over 2000 miles.

Hard to get any parameters on DPF performance...what % soot / ash trigger's the regen process? How to match OBD scan results against acceptable level's? I have mentioned here on the forum that with all the technology now in Vehicles, why not add a light or graph on DPF fitted vehicles to indicate when a regen is due, over due or activated?

anyone know where i can get a egr blanking plate for a 2012 220 cdi w204? im having it mapped out soon

Good, I would recommend using / running Liqui Moly's "Diesel Particulate Filter Protector" additive, part number: 7141 see link;

Diesel Particulate Filter Protector

Inexpensive insurance.

Ash doesn't trigger a regen; it's what's left after a regen. Assuming the DPF works properly, and remains serviceable, as I understand it, it should need no maintenance until the ash reservoir is full.

Why? If the DPF has regenerated back to 0%, it would appear to be functioning as intended; what will the additive enable it to do that it is not already doing?

It is your money.

$14.00 additive or $500.00 to clean a DPF if you remove, send-out to clean and reinstall plus labor or last I looked $1,800.00 for a rebuilt DPF with you supplying the old DPF as a Core or an additional $400.00 Total of $2,200.00 without a core plus the labor to remove and reinstall{when you reinstall you also require 2 new clamp, do not recall the cost]

Which would you like?

I ask again, what will the additive enable it (the DPF) to do that it is not already doing? Self-clean? No, can't be that, if it's on 0% full it's doing that already...

Other than lightening my wallet ever so slightly, what does this additive actually do? How does it 'ensure optimum combustion of the fuel, reduce soot formation, lower emissions and extend the service life of diesel particulate filters'? What is/are the active ingredients? I think we should be told.

I don't say it doesn't work, but what is the scientific and test evidence to back up the manufacturers' claims? If there is none, it's Snake Oil really, isn't it?

Do not take this the wrong way.

Diesel Particulate Filter Protector

I have no financial interest in the company, am only a happy user of there products.

A question: Do you know how a DPF filter regeneration occurs / works?

Why would I take your comments the wrong way?

The product information link tells me nothing useful; nor does the safety data sheet.

Yes, I do know how a DPF regeneration works.

Do you use it in your R230? What convinced you that it does any good?
