Dragging wipers, over sensitive sensor

Afternoon all, it's wet, it's raining and I have no beer, so instead I'm asking a question about wipers...

E Class, 2016, E220d saloon.

Mine are dragging noticeably on the drivers side, bottom more than top. They are new blades in March, old ones were much worse, the screen has been cleaned many times with quality glass cleaner, blades also cleaned properly, but still they drag unless it's very wet. It's friction, I think it's the arms maybe pushing down too hard?
Is there a way of being able to adjust them to put less pressure on the blades? Is this a common E Class thing?

Secondly, the auto wipe sensitivity is way too sensitive. I've never gone passed position one, even on that lowest setting, they swipe way too often on what are just a few sprinkles. I end up turning it off and using the bitton on the stalk in light rain to avoid the inevitable "squeeeeeeek" and drag.
Is there a way that can be "dialed down"?

See, said I was bored

Can’t say I have a problem with my coupe, are you using genuine, or aftermarket wiper blades?

I've only ever used the Mercedes items on the current W213 E63, but I did use Bosch wipers on my last W212 E63 and never had a problem.
My wipers do what you describe, but only if they are old or worn.
I guess the rubber perishes after being exposed to the elements.
If they're as bad as you're describing in very light rain then I would get a clay mitt and give the screen a good clean with that first.

Do you use rainex or anything like that, because whenever I did then I got dragging/squealing as a result so I don't use it anymore.

As for the sensitivity, I don't really have any such problems unless its a colder morning and you get a condensation forming outside, even after the condensation is wiped away, some kind of film of moisture must sit on the sensor a a short amount of time.

Good shout on the clay bar, I use Autoglym fast glass for the screen and blades, always clean the blades too.

The blades were brand new in March, not heavily used, but the dragging is still there (as it was with the old blades, but they were much worse!).

I don't use rainx or any rain repellant as well as you say, it would only make it worse. I know blades can wear in 12mth, but these have not been right since day one

You could try cleaning the screen using the autoglym fast glass (or similar) with 0000 wire wool (the finest grade). Learnt this trick from a car restorer, they use it to clean old car screens without scratching the surface. I have successfully used it on my friends camper van that had black windows that were really badly water spotted, they now look like new. The important thing is to use a lubricant like a glass cleaner and just wipe until you feel the screen is smooth and the wire wool glides. The issue could be some overspray residue from a detailing spray or similar used on the paintwork. If you are worried that it might scratch the glass (it wont) then try it first on the very bottom of the screen where it is blanked off to test first.

Ah, that explains why they’ve worn about so quickly, living in Wales, they’re in constant use. 🤣

More right than I can to admit!

I did a second stint with the clay bar, it rained a bit, so far, the potential is it has worked, so now a regular routine is born!!!

Mind you, I can talk, I live in the south west, or otherwise known as, the south wets. 😆
