Hi
I’m looking for some help/advice please
I have a Mercedes c class 250 coupe 2016
Always serviced on time
Very little hassle - had the car from 12 months old 57,000 now
I recently filled the Adblue up (as done in the past) & soon after the countdown message came up (in hindsight & reading comments have I overfilled?)
Car was serviced today by Merc specialist (independent) & said that he couldn’t clear the fault & it is a main dealership solution only
If this is the case has anyone had a similar issue & what was the cost to resolve?
Is forte de crystalliser any use or too late?
Thanks in advance

Welcome.

It's not a 'dealer only' job, but you'll certainly need to take the car to an independent specialist who has experience with the troublesome AdBlue system.

One common issue, BTW, is a failed AdBlue level sensor, which sadly only comes complete with a new AdBlue tank - you certainly don't want to get that job done at the dealer.... and this is even before mentioning the diagnostics fee.

Hello

I've seen several videos on youtube that address this problem but i could not find the, The vlogs on youtube seem to have the answer most of the time.
I found this hope it helps

If your Mercedes-Benz displays a countdown message after you've refilled the AdBlue tank, you can try these steps to reset the warning light:

  1. Turn the ignition to the "on" position, but don't start the engine.
  2. Press the "OK" button on your steering wheel to confirm the warning message.
  3. Select Menu using the steering wheel buttons.
  4. Scroll down and select Settings.
  5. Find the AdBlue Reset function under Vehicle or Service.
  6. Select AdBlue Reset.
If the warning light remains on, you can consult your car's user manual or contact a qualified service technician. The exact steps may vary by model.

Here are some other things to know about AdBlue:
  • The AdBlue tank sensor might not be working properly, causing the system to think the tank is empty.

  • You can check how much AdBlue is left and your predicted range by navigating to Service, then AdBlue.

  • You should not overfill the AdBlue tank.

  • You should park the vehicle on a level surface when filling the AdBlue tank.

  • If you run out of AdBlue, you won't be able to restart the vehicle. You'll need to add at least 3–5 liters of AdBlue before the vehicle will start.

Thanks Mark - I’m going to try another local specialist next week

How can you overfill it?

I thought the same however I’ve been told that you aren’t supposed to fill it all the way up (I have done in the past) strange as listening to comments it’s like the system is designed to fail
You could try pumping the adblue out using a Pela pump , refilling with anti crystal and fresh adblue .

Alternatively, remap with adblue delete, well some would anyway.
Hi - I’m probably looking of changing cars in the next 6 months & wouldn’t wish to pass on a problem - if I did that I guess it would be right & proper to tell the next owner, would it have an effect on resale price? Thanks

On the balance of probabilities, it won't go down well. The majority of people will have no previous experience of the dreaded AdBlue system, and will be wary of buying a modified car. A minority of enthusiasts might actually be happy with it.

(And, technically, it renders the car unroadworthy and unisurable....)

I was thinking that so I’ll 🚮 that one! Thanks

Try w1ghtys advice , the anti crystal might just dissolve any build up on the level sensors. If it was fine with a low level of ad blue , return it to that state, would be my advice.

Empty out the lot , refill maybe 4 litres mixed with anti crystal 50 MLS.

Well worth a try, but never worked on mine.
