Drivers air vent - fixable?

The air vent in my C class has gone faulty. The little slider no longer moves the vertical slats controlling the air direction. I fear it may have been self inflicted as I used one of those 'clip on' air fresheners and may have pushed it on too hard! Is it a dash out job (in which case I can live with it!), or maybe something more simple to repair?

Gosh, 50 odd views and not one comment. Am I the only one ever to have had a broken air vent?

Between moto gp races.....

Remove the light sw assy... bolt behind the parking brake release
Then undo the fasteners behind, and maybe have to pull the end dash cover for more fixings??

Not sure how that assembly is held in, but the centre air vents on a B Class are only held in with clips and a "special" tool is needed to remove it(read bent pieces of metal). Maybe worth having a google as I am sure you are not the first :D

Have just bought (very cheap!) a replacement vent and can see superficially how it is attached. When I actually get it, I'll see if I want to attempt refitting myself, or leave it for a couple of months and get a pro to do it at the next service! Gotta be more gentle in future on my use of air fresheners LOL

These may help:

Darn it - that looks relatively straight forward though still plenty of room for me to bodge. However I recently repaired my 'summer opening' feature by fixing the IR sensor after thinking it too difficult, so, after a wee ponder, may be tempted by this too. Thank you...
