Today right behind me was a very small car, not a ford bit about similar size and I'm not sure what the make/model was.
I noted this at the traffic lights and the woman continued along the road at 40mph.

I've seen it before but this was an exceptional example IMO. The woman had her chin fractionally above the top of her steering wheel - she was wearing massive sunglasses as well.

Does no one tell them that they may be at very serious risk of injury of the driver's airbag went off?

I know of a lady relative aged about 60 that has done that from day she passed her test. I told her a few years ago, but she laughed it off.

We used to have to deactivate airbags for our shortest customers....she may have had the same done.....not really her fault if she's short.

It was never an issue....but that was few years back. We could not do it on multi driver cars and it had to be reactivated before sale. I was going to say that it was better than having it explode in your face.....but I know what you lot are like!!!!:D

Not sure what the insurer will make of it? 🤔

I've no idea if she was "short" not but the lady I know as per my op, she is 5'5 5" and that is relatively tall for a woman from her era and country.

If being short results is this driving position, I knew of women that worked with me had a cushion on their seat as well as a man. This in my view is a better option, ie move seat forward, use cushion often works.

I guess these days most cars are automatic and you don't really need long legs to depress the clutch.

About you/colleages "deactivating" their airbags - first I've heard of that. Did the customer ask or was it recommended by your place?

my first car with what equated to an airbag was an audio with a system called. 'procon ten" or something like that. On frontal impact, the steering wall pulled into the dash depending on the severity of the crash IIRC.

I guess if like some people I grasp the steering hard, in the even of a heavy front impact, the procon 10 could have pulled my hands off😂

You see this a lot on our roads , and I must say it tends to be lady drivers , There is a lady driver I see quite regularly near us , she basically looks at the road from beneath the the top rim of the steering wheel and the top of her dashboard of her car while driving sat incredibly close to the steering wheel . She would most likely make a great tank driver.

It looks terribly unsafe , she either has no idea how to adjust her seat and steering wheel or she is 4 foot tall.

People much shorter than that manage just fine

She must be pretty close to the wheel or lean the backrest a long way back. My mum is 5'2"....and IMO borderline too close. Car is a Qashqai. If she leans the backrest far enough to be safe she cant see out......if she then raises the seat high enough to see out she has to suffer a horrible foot/pedal angle!!!

Personally I think short people should be banned.....the number of times I've nearly crippled myself down the gym getting on a bit of equipment that was previously use by a member of the Facarwii tribe........

My wife is 5'6" and I curse the times she doesn't put the car seat back after parking in the garage. Thank Mercedes for the door-mounted seat memory button.

My wife is 5’ and half an inch. Doesn’t have any issues.

Mine is 5' 1" and she has the back set more forward than me - one of our daughter is a bit taller 5' 3" and manages to sit like how most men sit behind the wheel ie face and chin away from the steering - she has a sporty car 2 door but it is a relatively wide/big car for a little sports thing.

In my view, when learning to drive, those who sit with their face/chin up against the wheel should be stopped from doing that by finding a safer and better driving position.

This thread reminded me of this.... not sure you would get away with those lyrics now!

I have tinnitus and had trouble understanding what Mr Randy was singing but his name caught me eye.
