Hi All,
Has any w213 e63s owners had a service recall for drivetrain software updates from MBUK dealer? I 've just sent my car for normal service B and was informed that there's a software update, however I declined when the service advisor raised a question whether is my car being tuned/remapped. I was a bit worried as this car had 3 previous owner and I'm not sure what could happened after the software updates.

thanks!

Mine just had the Front Diff replaced under warranty so they did an update then, no mention of the recall tho.

Speaking of warranty, I tried to asked for replacement on the welcome light at the exterior door handle, no luck on that as my service advisor mentioned it's not under the warranty.
I am really keen to update my drivetrain hoping it would resolved the issue of holding gear when accelerate from stand still. I noticed the gear won't up shift from 2nd gear from stand still at the traffic light after I decelerate. I had to use the paddle shift to upshot to 3rd and so on.
What would happen if they update the software if the car had been tuned? That's what i am worrying about.

Can you ask the dealer for the WIS / TIS number?

'Drivetrain' could mean many things. Is this the engine ECU? The Transmission TCU? Or another ECU in the car? Etc.

BTW, most software updates, are just that, and not a recall. If it's actually a recall, then it will be logged in various databases online.

See for example:

A software update that isn't a recall won't be listed online.

I didn't ask much as when they raised the question if my car has been tuned. That's what worries me as it had 3 previous owners beforehand. Just worried it could cause my car a total breakdown after the update and it won't be covered under warranty for the damage caused.

Yes, I think it just a software update but I remembered the person that spoke to me mentioned there's a service recall software update or something like that. I tried Google it but nothing appears as a recall.

A transmission update shouldn't cause any problem if the car has been remapped.
An ECU update could potentially remove the map, but that shouldn't cause the car to breakdown.
If the engine has been remapped, any warranty claim for engine damage would probably be denied.
Mercedes main dealers should be able to tell whether the engine has been remapped or not with Xentry/Star.

If you want to find out for yourself, stick it on a dyno. If you see close to 700bhp+/- at the crank, its been remapped.

This car is an approved used car with 24 months warranty, I would assume MB should have done pre-inspection etc before classified as approved used? Judging it has full service history since new, should I go ahead with the updates? I did ask the service advisor to diagnose before the update but she said that would be a charge of £200!

If the main dealers have given the car a 24month warranty, they must be happy the engine hasn't been modified previously.
I can't believe they would issue a warranty without checking.
If the car had been remapped the dealer should inform any prospective buyer as it then brings in the question of insurance validity.
I'd say you're safe to go ahead with the software update.
As I mentioned previously and if you are still concerned, a dyno run would cost £50-£75 to find out if its been remapped. Cheaper than main dealer diagnosis!

That's what i would assume as well if the vehicle has been qualified as an approved used. But then I purchased this car from a different dealership though. Been having long thoughts for the past few days, I would give it a go as my MOT is due in 2 months time, will ask them for the software updates by then. Fingers crossed!

You'd think that... but sadly, too many dealers don't bother.
