Hi all - I'm going to SRR for a dyno run to see what power my E320CDI is actually developing and whilst I'm sure Charlie will already know, what is the correct procedure to put the car into dyno mode (i.e. so the traction control / ESR etc. doesn't get in the way of a clean run).

I know I can press the ESR button on the dash, but I'm not sure this turns everything off fully...

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Try this mate:

1. MAKE SURE TEMP GAUGE IS SHOWING ON CLUSTER, IF NOT SELECT THE BUTTON ON THE LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO SCROLL TO THE TEMP GAUGE.
2. PUT YOUR KEY IN THE IGNITION, TURN IT ALL THE WAY OVER UNTIL ALL YOUR LIGHTS IN THE CLUSTER LIGHT UP , BUT DO NOT TURN THE CAR ON.
3. TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY OFF, THEN BACK ON TO THE FIRST CLICK.
4. PRESS THE RESET KNOB 3 TIMES FAST IN THE UPPER LEFT OF THE GLASS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.
5. USE YOUR UPPER ARROW ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND PRESS IT UNTIL THE CLUSTER READS ESP DYNO METER TEST.
6. SELECT THE PLUS(+) BUTTON ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE CLUSTER WILL HIGHLIGHT “ON”.
7. START THE CAR UP WITH THE KEY, AND YOU ARE NOW IN DYNO MODE.
8. THE CAR WILL REMAIN IN DYNO MODE PERMANENTLY EVEN IF YOU TURN IT OFF. CHANGE IT VIA THE SAME METHOD ABOVE BACK TO NORMAL MODE.

What year is your W211?

That works for facelift models on earlier models with the display on temp you only need to turn the key to position 1 and press the reset button on the cluster 3 times within 5 secs of turning the key

Thanks both - mine's a facelift, but just turning the key to pos 1 with the display showing outside temp and quickly pressing the reset button three times got me there so this method works both pre and post facelift.

(Having posted, I searched and found a post by Alps)!

I'll post up the results once known...

... so almost 460 ft lb's of torque just under 2,500rpm looks healthy, but the power doesn't increase after 3,000rpm (and is almost the same at 3,800rpm) so it looks like there are some sleeping horses hidden in my engine.

Charlie commented how clean the exhaust was (as in no smoke), so it can't be too serious and given the car's now done 142,000 miles I'm not unduly upset.

It could be the so many factors - car or Brabus map related (I remember John has previously commented that Brabus updated his map during its lifetime); should I chase an awakening of those horses or leave them at rest?

What does the collective think?

Yes mate, his signature said 2007 so assumed that one.

Did you get my PM?

Did you get my PM?

Me or Paul (SavMan)?

I didn't!

By the way, I emailed Brabus and it turns out their system has a dyno mode for which they sent me the instructions (warm car, start engine, rev to max rpm & hold for one second, return to tickover and repeat procedure a further twice... both LED's will now flash to indicate unit is in dyno mode and all failsafe functions are bridged. Reverts to normal mode next time ignition is turned off.)

Back to SRR after my holidays!
