E43 AMG
Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a C or E43 AMG. I've test drove a few now and whilst I have read some observations about the cars being very firm and focused, the over all feel of the car is excellent. What are the other issues with these cars that owners have raised?

Thanks in advance,

DaveyK

I think they are amazing. The only downside from owning a C43 saloon was the increasing itch to get a C63. Took almost 5y for me to do it,

What wheel size are you looking at on the car you buy?
20 inch. I've bought the car now, a 2018 model E43. So far I'm enjoying it. Obviously it's not an E63 or 63s but as a daily driver, it seems to be a very decent compromise. It appears a very capable car. Any idea what pitfalls I need to look out for? I have a two year MB warranty that should see me through any issues on the near horizon. But what about further down the line?

Any pitfalls.....?

Cracked alloys, given that you have a set of 20s on it (bet it looks smart though)!

FSH with gearbox service done?

My E400 has a similar engine and performance but yours is a couple of notches further up the scale, so as you say, a perfect daily.
Tyre choice on those wheels can make a difference to the ride quality.
How are finding it?

PS - You could look at releasing a little more 'howl' from the V6 with a res delete, although these petrols with the GPF and other gubbins attached don't howl like the older V6s do when freed up.

Got any photos to share?

Not sure if the E43 shares the same adjustable dampers as the C43, but if they are the same then they are a weak point on the car. My C43 (2017) had new rear dampers within a year from new and then at 3years 2 new front dampers, all due to oil leaking.

Full MB Main dealer service history and the car came with a two year MB warranty. So far I've managed to avoid the worst of the winter pot holes so fingers crossed, the alloys will stay intact. I'm currently on Michelin Pilot Sports and on certain surfaces, the ride can feel a bit firm, even in comfort mode. I'd be interested in hearing the views of other AMG owners where the rubber is concerned. Don't have any decent photos of her as yet. I'm waiting for the crap weather to fade away so I can try and get some nice photos of her after a good wash and polish.

DID MB change the dampers under warranty? I believe my car has the same set up.

My front dampers were also leaking and changed by MB under warranty.

Yes - the 2 rears were replaced under warranty during previous ownership and I had the 2 fronts replaced under MB used-approved warranty. The fronts lasted just under 5years. They are NOT a cheap piece of kit and also be aware that as far as I understand, MB used-aftermarket warranty does not cover dampers.

And I still miss my C43 EVERY day............. :-(
