So, fingers crossed I should be collecting my new car on Wednesday. Unfortunately one of the options my current 211 has (factory blinds in the rear doors) isn’t on the new car, so with the little ones in the back I’m looking at options for cutting out some of the sunlight/rays for them.

Although I loved the factory blinds in the current car I’m not sure how easy/cost effective a retrofit would be on the new one? They only do the door windows in the back also too.

Any recommendations for tints - I’m not really familiar with them as I’ve never had them in any of my cars before. Not keen on the ‘hearse’ look but would be a medium level tint cut enough sunlight out?

This is how the car looks at present (sorry for the poor quality image)

Any advice would be welcomed

Thanks :)

Wish mine looked like that... It has the factory tint, and I'm not keen on the hearse look either!

The standard tinted glass you have cuts out all the UV (which is why photochromic lenses don't work in cars), but only some of the rays/glare. The factory tint looks very dark from the outside, but not obtrusively so from the inside.

I also have factory darkened glass. I like the look but i'm not sure it cuts out much of IR. It still gets extremely hot inside in this weather. I'm considering transparent or almost transparent film that can cut our large amount IR. Including some for windscreen. So far I had no luck locating such wonder, but there is hope.

My 2013 E350 estate has the genuine Mercedes tinted glass in the rear and it makes the car feel like the black hole of Calcutta in the back. The standard tint is very, very dark and my children hate it, I was looking at getting the normal door windows and getting them fitted. Have you looked for the company that makes the window blinds that clip in? I think there called solar shade, there very good i had them in my Volvo XC70 estate and they cost about £75 for the set.

blinds are just replacement rear door cards with the blinds built in, check bay.de. windows can just be tinted

You’re lucky to find one without privacy glass, I would keep it that way. Your glass is already lightly tinted and has a UV coating. If you feel you need blinds, you could try the made to measure ones on eBay which look very good, and are available (or used to be) for the rearmost windows too.

It took us ages to find our W164 ML without privacy glass, as the vast majority have factory privacy glass. The MB factory “blue” glass is so much nicer IMHO, but sadly it wasn’t even an option on our W166 ML - I’m sure MBUK deliberately do that so you specify a panoramic roof!

Cheers guys,

Sorry I didn’t reply to the thread sooner, I’ve had the car a week or two now and it’s looking like a definite keeper :)

I do prefer the look of it as it is too. I’ve never had cars with tints before and not really keen on the look but I definitely need blinds or something on bright sunny days with the kids in the back.

I have had a look at the link above and they look spot on. I’ll order a set soon and will update the thread with my findings :thumb:

Thanks again

Of course it is; we all knew it would be, including you...

Which power output do you have? Except for 'Top Trumps', not that it matters much with the 5.5 BT though; they're all very rapid indeed...
