Stay with me on this one please....
My wife (love her) has just backed into an E Class Merc and punctured the front bumper with a towball. The Merc driver was manoeuvering behind her while she was ready to drive off after parking and had (apparently) parked a safe distance away. Then he moves again and parks right behind her such that she could not see (in an L200) although both rear reversing lights work and she was moving very slowly. So there was a bump and the damage was done.
In my view that is contributory "negligence" so open to a settlement discussion.
As it turns out I recognised the name and realised I knew the driver. This happened in rural Ireland where we are living although I was not there. It is a small friendly village locality so I have no interest in making a big fuss whatever happens as we need to keep the friendly atmosphere intact at all costs.
Typically there is one local garage "4x4 main dealer" which is where he took the car for a repair estimate.
€550 + vat!! Crikey. For that he will likely get a full respray and repair all the other scuffs and scrapes which are there.
So I am thinking what would be the cost of a simple new bumper, colour coded (silver of course) from UK as the cost of removing and refitting is already in that quote I imagine. Swopping some lights should not be that difficult? So as I can take it over there for free I thought this would be a better option for both of us. I assume new bumper fittings would be required as these would break? New bumpers seem quite cheap?
I am therefore looking for some advice on if this is a better option and where is the best place to go for such a solution?
Thanks for hanging in there......
For the record I have had several Merc estates and I was sure I was a full member of this forum but seems any previous posts have not been counted. Hey ho!
