Hey guys, I've been driving BMW's most my life, but lately I thought about spicing things up a bit and look into a MB E class coupe, best looking coupe imho, everything about it looks great. I went and booked a test drive and from the moment I sat in the car I thought to myself.. this is where I want to be, sadly I couldn't drive it out of the car park due to massive congestion and asked to reschedule for next week. Anyway, I start looking to buy one but with todays market it feels like I am getting ripped off, a premium plus model can go over 30k easily, if they install the GTS grill and some bigger wheels prices can go over 32k but I found some cabriolet's with good specs and better prices, but as someone who never had one before I am wondering what's it like living with it, I heard horror stories about soft tops before and it puts me off a bit. Am I worrying to much?

Welcome, Alex, not got a convertible, but got a C207 coupe 350 cdi, had it 3 years, awesome motor, and as you say, lovely looking car, a few niggles in the 3 years, but nowt to right home about, if you get a coupe, try and get one with a pan roof. :)👍

Hi Alex. I have a W212 convertible so may be of help, what horror stories have you heard?

Hey Andy, the stories were not about the E class but in general, some say the roof might start to rattle, can be super noisy, the mechanism can fail and it can get expensive, hard to clean and some other stuff like rear window can be tricky to replace and apparently they do need replacing after a while because most are plastic and it degrades.

Hey, thank you, the C class is also nice, almost as nice, and I would probably enjoy it a bit more since it's more sportier, but I love the E cabin, the 12" display is just lovely and I am not going to lie I like a big car, I am driving a 6 series F13, I am looking at the premium plus package but some can get extremely expensive and knowing they used to sell for 24-25k just a few months ago pisses me off to pay an extra 10 now, I did found a few that have sunroof but no Burmeister speakers or no digital dash, I did read that you can actually replace the dash but I am not sure if it's the same thing as having it from factory. I am trying not to break bank but at the same I don't want to regret not having a decent sound system, digital dash and a sunroof.

My roof on my 2012 W212 E350 works perfectly, is in perfect condition, has a glass rear screen and with proper cleaning and annual re-proofing is watertight. There are absolutely no rattles and the car is very quiet with the roof up. With the roof down and the air-cap elevated my brother mentioned that the car was only as noisy as his Audi A5 was with the drivers side window open! Of course mechanisms CAN fail but preventative maintenance will help to reduce the chances of this happening.

The C207 is an E class coupe, Alex.
Ah, I see you want the latest shape E class coupe/convertible, the one with all the toys, yep premium plus is the one you want, but even that hasn't got the full length digital dash, it was an option.

As SmartAmg said the E class coupe is a C207 and the convertible E class is an A207.

The E-Class Convertible A207 (2009-2017) is based on the C-Class Saloon W204 floorpan and drivertrain, with some external panels and interior trim lifted from the E-Class Saloon W212. It is essentially a very similar car to the C207 E-Class Coupe, but not so much to the W212. It was replaced in 2017 with the current-model E-Class Convertible/Cuope A238/C238, which is based on a new floorpan, not related to the C-Class.... Hope this makes sense.

Oh I miss read that, I want the 2017 model, which I believe is the W213/C238?

A 2017 car could be either the previous model A207 or the current model A238. MB have the habit of introducing new cars halfway though the model year.....

(In either case it won't be a W212 or a W213)

Two Paracetamol, Alex? ;):)👍
I need something stronger mate.. my 7 series has been in the garage for 3 weeks now, I never thought you can actually hate a car so much, sorry for all the confusion though.. I am looking at the 2017 + model, not really sure if convertible is a good idea over a coupe, that's pretty much it :)

Ok, so Premium plus is the one you want, it's got everything,
Pan Roof, (coupe) Burmiester, Ambient lighting, etc but like I said the full length digital dash was an option, even on Premium plus, another nice option imo is duel colour leather seats. :) 👍

Obtain the Oasis sheet on the car you are looking at.Its the build specification.

Make sure all the electrics work and the Comand (GPS system ) is up to date.

Check condition of tyres as they are can be expensive to replace.

A car of that age should have a full MBSH.

I have a service plan plus an extended warranty.

When I purchased my car while I liked the car cannot say I was in love with the car but things have now changed.

From what I remember this model is 4x4 and check for undue front tyre wear and crabbing.

I have only owned one Mercedes and would purchase another one without hesitation.

I believe that Mercedes produce the best coupe you can purchase without buying a supercar.

Hey, thank you for the detailed answer. I'll make a note, and yes I agree the E class coupe is gorgeous, I need to have it lol.

The most important things to have are burmester sound, sunroof and digital dash, anything else is extra, no air suspensions though, no more damn air suspensions:) adaptive yes but nothing else.

Not driven the Cabriolet, but had the Coupe E220d premium plus since March 2020. Absolutely gorgeous car. Go for it!

I have the latest coupe premium plus with full size dash and air suspension black and white leather and gotta say the car is awesome only got the 2.0 d but on a run in 9th you can get over 60mpg easy. Taking it down to Nerja Spain next year [if it safe to do with covid] for 6 weeks and cant wait.

Sounds great, I love driving long journeys like that.. France, Germany .. never been to Spain with a car. Did you buy the car new? what made you chose air suspensions? I hate mine.. only issues, been waiting on a new module for my 7 series for 5 weeks now.
