are the e class E220 diesels any good for urban driving eg 30 mile round trip to work and back or do the dpf filters block

are they fairly quiet inside the cab

30 miles should be long enough to make sure the engine's up to temperature. DPF should be fine on that mileage. Just be sure to give it a quick bootful of throttle occasionally. I've never actually been in an E220 cdi but the C220 was fairly refined, especially at higher speeds. Around town it was ok as well but all 4 cylinder diesels are a bit agricultural at idle or low speed.

Thanks for that i had a bmw 520d 2008 had nothing but trouble with the dpf so i changed to a c180 61 reg but it sounds rough just want a quiet relieable car

When you say 30 mile round trip, do you mean 15 miles there, and 15 miles back at the end of your shift?

As I understand it, as long as your engine is running for 15 minutes or more per journey, it should help to burn the deposits in the DPF.

Quiet enough.
People comment on not wanting a diesel in an open top car. But, overriding noise is wind & tyres (on all but perfect surfaces).
A few days ago I followed a porsche carrera 4 at speed. Couldn't hear the 250CDi over the noise of the porsche:D
