Car is S212 E350 night edition 2015
I need to have the windscreen replaced, Tesco insurance use Autoglass. It has inteligent LED headlamps, not lane departure.
Will the car need to go onto Star afterward in order that everything works please ?

If it has a camera behind the rearview mirror, it will likely need to be recalibrated. Does the car have Traffic Sign Assist?

Personally, I would pay the insurer the additional excess (if applicable) to have the job done by an MB dealer using genuine MB glass.

Thanks Markjay
No traffic sign assist.
When I bought the car 7 1/2 years ago it had already had a replacement non MB screen. It's been fine during that time and 58k miles.
Unfortunately a stone falling from a builders truck killed it

Pretty sure auto glass do the calibration at one of their centres ,not sure about the mobile fitters. Last screen I got was a pilkington screen, top draw apparently for screens.

Auto glass have specialist depots that can recalibrate all the items affected, they will know because the screen spec , my daughter had her ML screen replacement via auto glass and everything was coded in so functional after. I think from memory the MB dealers locally used Autoglass to do their screen replacements

You’re probably better off having the job done by windscreen specialists who do this kind of work every day rather than a dealer, who in any case is probably likely to themselves outsource the work anyway.
I had a screen replaced last year, not on my Merc but on my wife’s Kuga. It had cameras, traffic sign recognition etc and it was all calibrated when Autoglass did the job. I couldn’t get it done by a mobile but had to take it to the nearest centre capable of doing the calibration, 25 miles away, but the job was done perfectly.

If the car needs any calibration after changing the screen, then Autoglass will only change the screen at one of their depots that has the calibration capability. They will do any necessary calibration before handing it back. No need to involve a dealer with Star.

Was speaking with a windscreen replacement specialist a couple of weeks ago whilst driving a tank 🫡 , who used to work at autoglass until recently (now has his own more specialist windscreen business plus other side hustle). He was saying as long as the screen is the original MB marked screen, you are entitled to a 'like for like' replacement, and can strictly refuse an aftermarket screen, but you will need to be super firm sometimes if your car is older and possible escalate within Autoglass. Which I thought was interesting given some recent experiences on this forum.

For the Op, might confirm that if you now don't have a genuine Merc screen, you won't be able to get one as a replacement on the 'like for like' basis, but if you did want one you could enquire about paying an increased excess to get the genuine screen?

Tanks for that!;)

So the screen was replaced by Autoglass on Monday. The auto lights work OK although not been out in the dark to check all functions of the Intelligent LED's.
I often leave my wiper switch in position 1 (intemittent) and if it rains whilst I'm driving the wipers will work.
Now if I leave the switch in that position when I turn the key to position 1 ( before the "ignition on" position) the wipers give onewipe. Not good on a dry screen. I'm sure it didn't do that before.
Any ideas please

Just looked at the on line handbook and it does indeed say that.
But I've just got a mate to check his E63 which is the same year as mine and it behaves as I thought mine used to before ther new screen

My SL sometimes does a single wipe on switch on and sometimes doesn't! Luck of the draw.

I had mine replaced 2 weeks ago, it did exactly the same as you are describing.
I returned back to Autoglass, they plugged the Laptop back on and reset light and rain sensor, this fixed the wiper single sweep when starting up.
To say they are the specialists, the two fitters I spoke to hadn’t heard of this problem before.
I watch them do it, so don’t take no for an answer.
Imagine how many people are driving about with a dry sweep since having their screen replaced.

Thanks Muckypaps, I will be contacting Autoglass in the morning, will update this thread

My (original) screen has the MB signature, bottom right.
You would loose that, with an after market screen unfortunately.

I took the car back to Autoglass today, unfortunately they said I'll have to ring and make an appointment. Fair enough. Then took the car for a 50 mile drive during the course of that the car was turned off and restarted a number of times, to start with it was displaying the fault. Then it corrected itself. I have now restarted the car multiple times with the switch in either position 1 or 2 and it's behaving fine.
I have just called Autoglass and advised them of the situation which they have recorded on their system in case the fault comes back
Many thanks to all who gave advice

It could behave differently if you lock the car and return later, as opposed to turning the car on and off.
