E220 AMG Estate
Ok well firstly an introduction. I am living in Ireland and have had Toyota cars all my life but now I am considering buying a merc.
I test drove an E200 1.8 petrol (90k miles on the clock) yesterday and really loved it but I am concerned about fuel consumption, can someone confirm the mpg is around 25 ?
The other option is the E220 diesel which seems to have great mpg.
Road tax 1.8 - 592 per year
Road tax 2.2 - 980 per year

Am I better off buying the diesel and paying more road tax to save on the fuel ?
I would only do on average 10-15k miles per year, all the E220 for sale have an average of 120k miles on the clock.

Please help as my head is melted.

Thanks

The E220cdi all day long.

More efficient and a more reliable engine.

As ^ consireding the mileage you do,the diesel one it's a better option
PS welcome to the forum

Sorry should mention that would be 10-15k kilometres per year

Welcome to the forum.

The 220 CDi will roughly do double the mpg of the petrol, makes it a no-brainer to me.

Yes

I have a 211 E 200 kompressor , there a crap engine . I can only manage around 24 MPG from it and 300 miles per tank . I regreat not getting the 220 cdi . The extra road tax would soon be recouped in fuel savings
I would also avoid a 211 from 02 as these where early cars and can be troublesome , and there is aslo the issues with rads leaking coolant into the transmission with 211 built up to september 2003 . Mine is an early 2003 car and I have had some electrical issues with it especially with the airmatic suspension , infact im thinking of removing the airmatic suspension because of constant electrical problems with it .

6 Wow thats verging on v8 petrol mpg Shorty:eek:

I know Steve , thats why I reckon there a crap engine , low power high fuel comsumption

Would have to drop a year to 2002 to get the diesel

I`ve just arrived in Spain having covered 1648 miles@50mph average and overall fuel consumtion of 53mpg.The car is 9 years old and has covered 162,000 miles.I too would recommend the E220cdi.
Regards
John
