E220 CDi
Hi, I have an E220 Cdi 58reg. Recently I've noticed something wrong with the gearbox, it started a couple of weeks ago when it wasn't changing on time I had to push down the throttle more and it was slower the manual change wouldn't work as well as the C/S button, it all went back to normal after I switched of the engine and started again.
I noticed it happens after about half hour of driving.
Yesterday was worse, when the problem came up again it changed very brutal like a missed gear change same when I've put it in reverse and the same it wouldn't respond to any manual commands.
Today was a bit different it came up about 40min after start it didn't do the brutal change anymore but when I got in front of my house and tried to park...well it wouldn't change to any gear no drive no reverse, so I had to restart the engine to make it work.

Any ideas what it might be and how should I fix it? Should I still drive it like that, I mean can it get worse?
Thanks

Oil and filter change?. Cheap option may work

But what does the electronics have to do with it? The gearbox lever doesn't works neither the c/s button

As above post, you need to get the codes read. Your gearbox ECU will show all the faults you have experienced along with the fault codes. An indy with STAR can do this for you much cheaper than main dealer. Don't rely on another garage that doesn't have STAR.

It will unfortunately get worse if my experience was anything to go by.

My fault was the electroplate within the gearbox and costs between £350 - £450 depending on who repairs it.

Has the auto box oil and filter been changed in the service history ?

I've called Mercedes and apparently the gearbox have been changed 3yrs ago as well the oil and filter

You need a Star test.

I have had almost exactly the same issue with my 2005 W211(E320 Estate). Got progressively worse - consistently stuck in 2nd gear; no response to tiptronic; no C/S response; gear indicator saying D (for Drive); no dash warning lights and no malfunction. Took the car to a Merc Indie and aid for a Star test. Indications that turbo-charger needed changing, along with electroplate etc. Anyway limped home and took it back to the Indie - further Star tests suggested electroplate only. Job done 3 days later and all now perfect again - cost £650.00.
