Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else had similar issue with Auto Stop/Start. I haven't noticed it myself but my wife had it for the 3rd time today.

I usually drive with Auto stop/ start off, but my wife doesn't. When she stopped at traffic lights the car turned off but to turn it back on again she had to press start, not just accelerate as usual.
She always drives in comfort mode, and now it happened 3 times over last week to her. Any idea what could it be? Car is 2019 reg, and out of warranty now. Not sure if this is engine issue or electrical fault, or anything else? Please help!

Just turn the stupid system off.
It will save you a fortune in the long run with timing chains, starter motors and batteries.

If the battery is not fully charged (or the system thinks that it is not) the autostart will not work. In some cases, there is a yellow warning symbol in the instrument cluster. If you have the Mercedes "ME" app, the no-cost basic version you will find this information in the vehicle "Service" section. In my case, the car always started using the button but did not engage the Autostart/stop.

I purchased the car second hand. The dealer accepted my warranty claim and replace the battery. I stated getting warning messages every time I sat in the car with engine off but with the radio on.

And as Smiley suggested: I turn the stupid system off after every start. It will wear out the battery etc. prematurely.

Thanks, battery seem to be charged, service in the app also shows charged.
I always turn it off, my wife doesn’t…
Is there any way to turn it off permanently?

Afraid not, you have to push the button every time.

As above.

There are software hacks available to buy on eBay, but I wouldn't recommend it.

There are other unorthodox ways of disabling it, such as disconnecting the auxiliary battery, but again, I wouldn't recommend it.

Others may differ.....

Not all cars have the auxuliary battery. On a W205, for example, the 'aux battery' is in fact a voltage regulator.

If you were able to turn it off permanently then I don't think manufacturers could claim the MPG they do, which is helped by the stop/start.

yeah dont’t really want to install anything that could make it worse.
So I was driving this morning and the same thing happened to me (i left auto stop start on, on purpose). So as soon as I stopped the engine shut down as I would turn it of using start/stop button, and as my wife said I had to press start twice to get it running again.

It will also be over 13 years old.

I have to be honest I am a tech guy, love all features on my merc, but never been a fan of auto start stop. Anyway I asked my wife to switch it off every time she is about to drive, just wondering if this is one of the signs that something else will fail next 😂
