Er hello.....Bit nervous. Just bought my 1st Mercedes.Liked the e250 but was totally seduced by 3 litre v6. WHAT A CAR. Calcite white, command rear camera, HK. Not too late to add air suspension but seems nice enough without.

Nervous as my trade in car was a little astra sri. Had it 6 years nice little thing. but the e350 OMG!

Got almost 7k off list price so happy days.

welcome :)

great choice of car & a fantastic discount you got there! i'm picking up an E350CDI sport cabrio on 1st of March so the excitement level is creeping up already :D

Hi,welcome to the forum:thumb:

Thanks, i have looked at so many cars my head is spinning. I liked the Mondeo but I am keeping the car for a while and want something that is going to make me smile. Mondeo is a good car but not stunning in any area.
BMW is also very good but could not get a price I was happy with.
Merc is very comfy and I dont need the "handling" just a bit of refinement. The stories of thirsty 3 litre v6 I think of this way. I do 20000 miles a year mainly A road. And a couple of Europe trips. Currently i get 46mpg mycost for fuel is 2K If I can get 38 mpg+ then it will cost me £400 notes for a very nice toy indeed and I will be delighted. regardless can't wait. Abbie that Cabriolet looks stunning, and the CLS I test drove, very very nice!!

Welcome to you BL - a great car.

Welcome aboard, and you've chosen a great car (well, I would say that :D ). What colour have you gone for on the upholstery?

Having had my W212 for almost a year now I'd say that the reversing camera is a good idea as it's a big car and rearwards visibility isn't that great. Personally I wouldn't be too bothered about the air suspension, but if you're looking for something else to spend your money on then the ventilated seats are a nice addition. In fact, those and the reversing camera are really the only two options I'd spec in addition to what I had on my current car.

That's a refreshingly realistic approach to fuel economy and one that will help you enjoy the car immensely :thumb:

Depends on how you drive the 20k miles:) 38mpg should be doable if you can avoid overuse of the loud pedal. Trouble is, that is what the 350 is for:)

Enjoy it.

I've just moved the W212 350 on, in 10100 miles it averaged 26.4mpg but mostly town driving. The gear box was never great at starting from standstill even after 5 or 6 software updates. My new W204 is nigh on perfect though, must be the "plus" in the g/box

Absolutely. Had mine 6 months and 6k miles. 38 might be doable but you'll drive yourself insane trying to hold it back all the time. Expect 30 and you'll have a bit of fun and the odd pleasant surprise on economy. Use all the power and you'll get 29. The torque on this beast is wonderful.

I had a 1200 mile E350CDi BE courtesy car today (beats the usual A Class!) and I particularly checked the gearbox action as I've read about delays etc. It was absolutely fine, even in E mode, picking up from rest and when joining flowing roadabouts at slow and faster speeds.

I was a bit surprised that engine sounded like it was going faster than the rev counter indicated - couple of time I was wondering why it wasn't shifting up to the next gear, only to look at the rev counter and see it was doing just 1500RPM.

It baffles me that Mercedes Benz can get what is essentially the same gearbox so right in one car, yet so wrong in another.

The 7G 'box in Angie's SLK350 is pretty near perfect and the response from a standstill is instantaneous, yet the initial lag from standstill on the early W212 350CDI's with the 7G 'box is an ongoing complaint from so many people.

Lots of people rave about how good the 5-speed 'box is (and having driven a W211 220CDI I can believe them), yet in the W204 I found it a dull-witted sluggish irritation.

Why can't MB get it right in all installations? It can only be down to some strange software silliness borne of chasing low CO2 numbers.

FWIW, the 7G-plus 'box in the later W212's is as instantaneous at the 7G in the SLK so I think Aoraki's right: it's all about the "plus".

MB 5 speed gearboxes work best with the more powerful engines.
