My 2010 S212 has an annoying, recurring problem! A while back, I had a new egr valve fitted - aftermarket, decent quality, and I've only done perhaps 1500 miles since. Around a couple of weeks after it was fitted, engine went into limp mode, but no eml showing. Limp mode gone after a restart. I spoke to the indy who fitted the egr - advised me to wait till the eml came on, then pop in and they'd plug the car in to look for a code. Eventually, after multiple limp mode spells, the eml came on. At the time, it wasn't convenient to visit the indy, but over the next couple of weeks I had eml on/no limp mode, no eml/limp mode, eml/limp mode etc etc. I called in on a mate yesterday, he has a decent code reader, it showed the code 14A600. Googling came up with the attached Xentry printout. I called at the indy today, same code showed up on his Xentry. I've booked it in to have the seal on the egr checked, there's only one O ring on it, but the printout mentions crushed/dislodged seal as a possible cause. The indy was puzzled by the printout reference to 'deformed egr line in the inner tube' though. Originally, the printout I downloaded had pics of the 4 possible faults, but they're not on the printout unfortunately. Anybody any idea what 'deformed egr line in the inner tube' might refer to?

From what I can gather this is what an egr ' inner tube ' can look like,,, 37 in the schematic. You can see also on the schematic quite a few sealing o rings ,going to the egr cooler from the inner tube .Screenshot_20230630-071841.png

The o ring inside won't though. 👍 I removed that other picture as I found an 0m642 tube to cooler . Wondering what that tube is near gasket 26 ??
 
Not the same fault code, and mostly I didn't get any fault code, but I had similar issues when my DPF pressure sensor was playing up. No EML but gearbox would also hold on to revs to 3k before changing gear. Have you noticed any shifting change?

Yep, 3k limit, holds low gears for longer, noticeable thud into 2nd (or 1st) as the car comes to a halt.

You don't have to wait until the EML(MIL) is on. Many faults are three trip MIL,
that is in the third occurrence of the fault the MIL is put on. The fault will be readable on the first occurrence though. The restricted performance you felt will have occurred as an intentional mitigation action as a result of that fault. Sounds like your guy was stalling you and hoping the fault would go away.

What you have found looks like a bulletin addressing known common causes of that fault. I believe the actual fault description is positive control deviation of exhaust gas recirculation control is too high. I interpret that as meaning the EGR is having to open more than expected to achieve the required flow. Lots of other possible causes for that.

The obvious question is why was the EGR replaced in the first place?
I also expect there is a routine in Xentry to learn end stops when a new valve is fitted. Someone with Xentry can confirm.

Might be worth a new DPF pressure sensor? £30ish for Bosch DIY or £200 for genuine fit via an Indy? They seem to be almost a consumable on these engines.
 
Hi Guys, has this problem been resolved as I have an ML350 W164 with the same code, l have cleaned the EGR replaced the changeover flap that is air operated, cleaned out the little metal tube that pushes up into the plastic housing in front of the changeover flap (that was virtually blocked) but I still have the same code with rough idling and juddering until it hits around 1500 rpm then takes off like a rocket. It has also gone into limp mode a couple of time. I am looking now at replacing the the vacuum switch that operates the changeover valve. Any info would be great.
 
They do deform inside and block up.

The aftermarket EGR valves (if not the same make as genuine) are cr@p.
 
EGR seems to be ok and can see it working with the cover removed
Should I change the vacuum pipes too as a precaution
 
"deformed corrugated pipe" is the crossover pipe from the turbo collector to the EGR valve. It cracks and leaks (if you had the oil cooler replaced, it might not have been installed correctly).

The car is most likely shuddering because the turbo failing to build backpressure at low speed as the exhaust bypasses through the EGR system at the time it is pre-fueling for lag compensation.

Thanks, can I ask you to elaborate as I have no idea on my car where this pipe is. The pipes either seem to be stainless steel rubber or aluminium.

At the back of the engine, down hidden behind the turbo.

On the suvs it's a pain.

What I had on my E320 was a bit different however. No issues with the pipe, but someone tried to yank than EGR valve out and quit half way leaving the bolts lose. Eventually when I floored it properly, the valve jumped up about a millimetre just enough for the cold side to vent to atmosphere. In that situation there were no codes and it took paying a specialist to look at it and say "everything checks out fine on star, but by the way your EGR looks a little unseated".

The symptom in my case was lack of power in cruise, because it was drawing in unmetered air when the EGR was closed. When EGR was open it had a small exhaust leak.

Your case, on the other hand, seems to be an exhaust leak when the EGR is closed.

I assume this is the corrugated pipe that you were referring to I have removed and cleaned it but it was not blocked at all very little cleaning required

The service bulletin refers to a leak, not an obstruction. The copper bolts and gaskets are single use by the way. If you snap those in you will have a bad day
