Morning collective.

I have a E350CDi which was diagnosed last week by my local MB specialist as having a dead MAF after the engine management light came on.
Its was £527 + VAT to buy new so I've got my hands on a guaranteed second user unit which I want to fit myself (part number A642 090 16 42)

The problem I need your help with is how to get the old unit off.

I've unplugged the connectors to left and right sensors at the front, and the centre hose to the engine jubilee clip removed but I can't get the approx 2inch dia hose at offside rear off and it seems to be attached with what look like fuel hose clips rather than jubilee clips.

Can someone tell me how to get this hose off?

Do I even need to get the hose off or can I undo the sensor its attached to while its on the car and plug the sensor into the new MAF?

Hi @wu565shoozz and thanks for replying.

I went to get photos and as I was looking at the replacement part I wondered what kept the sensor in place which is on the end of the hose in question and slots into the casing near the hose to the engine.
It turns out nothing does. It just pushes in with a rubber bung to keep it there. So I just wiggled it out, dropped the new AFM in place and wiggled the sensor back in.
5 mins in total and the AFM is fitted and waiting for me to test drive tonight. I don't want to do it now because I've hurt my back and the thing which hurts most is getting in and out of the car.

I'll report back later on the success or failure of the 2nd user AFM

Thanks for now.

Yep, it looks like a big plastic bat :D
There is a sensor on each end but another one on the OSR of it and it was that I didn't realise was connected to the hose and just pulled out.

Yep, I nearly died and even my specialist looked sheepish when he told me how much it was.
I managed to get one off ebay for £220 which is what I've fitted today.
The drive home will hopefully be enough to reset the engine management light, which I believe it will do itself. If not I've got a fault code reader I could try to check it with and reset it.

FYI, the only thing I've noticed at fault is a slight hesitation at very slow speeds. Everything else, including my MPG seems fine.

The update is the fault didn’t clear by itself despite a 20 mile / 40 min drive home.
But clearing it with my OBDII reader has sorted it out and a quick 10 min run hasn’t brought the error back.
So far then it looks like it’s fixed.

I think the MAF'S might require recalibration/resetting using star?
I had a similar issue with mine and the x pipe was swapped but the issue remained.
The indy then put back the original x pipe and recalibrated them and bingo, problem solved.
That was around 20k miles ago and still good.
