E350e hybrid range issue

Hi all, I have just bought a 2017 E350e with 27000 on the clock and when fully charged it is only reading 10 miles range and not even giving that, I read it should give 21 mile range but I don't expect to get that obviously but as its getting less than 50 percent and its still within warranty do I have a case to bring this up with Mercedes as they warranty the battery pack for 6 years or 60000 miles. Anyone tried this and if so what was the response from Mercedes.
 
You have found out what others have discovered....that these hybrids are a waste of time - all you get is a whole heap of additional complexity and problems in return for a few miles on battery and then a worse fuel consumption as you lug around the dead weight of the battery, motor and hybrid drive functionality. The manufacturers like to sell them because the emissions look good on the test bed and helps them to meet their overall emissions targets. I doubt that you will get anywhere with MB - the range is an estimate and not a guarantee. Personally I would take the car back if you have that option.

You “may” be able to improve your range if you switch off hot weather air con when on electric and save electric for town / suburban use only. (Taken onto swift roads your electric charge will disappear very quickly).

If you learn one pedal driving, avoiding the use of the brake pedal and coasting / harvesting electric power you will also improve the overall mpg and effective electric range.

What’s the overall real world mpg that you’ve achieved since you got the car?

Hi thanks for the advice, as of this morning when I checked after a full charge am up to 20 miles of range and got 14 actual so that's ok by me. On the 90 min run from buying the car I got 51mpg which was mostly A1 and a run to Sheffield yesterday with full load of people and full boot got 48mpg which is good I think. I have only had it since Monday but the battery seems to be improving already, not sure what the previous owner did to get it down to 10 miles but am happy with 20 as I can get to the shops and back on electric alone.

Hi, thanks but seems I was a bit premature as today when I checked I had 20nmile range again and got real world 14 so happy with that as means I get into town to do the shopping and back on Electric alone, also can top up and Tesco for free which is a result. I known its early days but am happy so far with it and took a 3 year premium warranty so should be safe from nasty surprises I hope.

If your "premium" warranty is a MB approved used warranty then I would suggest that you read the terms and conditions of the warranty carefully; if it is the same as the one I took a look at then you may well have a nasty surprise when you find out what is NOT covered.
I wish you luck with the car but I predict that the hybrid/EV part of the car will cost you a lot more in upkeep than it will save you in free Tesco electricity.
Imho these cars have become even more pointless now that the cost per mile running on battery is pretty close to the cost per mile of petrol.

£3 worth of free Tesco power is not to be sniffed at. The challenge is more around how often the hybrid user is prepared to cable up. I live a a community of a couple of hundred households and we’ve all been surprised at how little Hybrid owners actually cable up, either on their domestic cables or on the chargeable community chargers.

But see how it goes and update the thread as things go on.

One pedal driving and careful choice of EV vs petrol power should increase your range as you get more used to the hybrid way.. And silent driving can still be a joy in itself.
 
Hi , I feel so sorry for the OP. A few years ago I spoke to the service manager at a local MB dealer who was very honest about the Mercedes hybrid cars.

He had a company car that only would cover 6 miles on battery and if the electronics did not perform the combustion engine would not start.

The replacement cost of the battery was mind blowing and may or may not solve the range issue.

If you can return the car forthwith.
 
To my mind its full EV or petrol only. These half way houses give you all the worse bits of both worlds.....and will be just as banned (as far as new car purchases are concerned at least) as pure ICE cars in 2030. After that date I can see Hybrids being the least desirable cars to own after ICE and full EV....Just cant see the point.... especially "mild" Hybrids like the OPs.

Tis regulatory nonsense to give car manufacturers time to experiment.

We want to reduce CO2, so we create regulations that result in a Mum driving her eight year olds to school in a £110k 2.8 tonne PHEV Range Rover.

Kind of think we're missing the target there.

Hm, getting 20 miles for a recharge is pretty good. I have 350e 2017, but gives me only 7 to 8 miles (11 miles displayed on the dashboard).
 
Hi , my daughter's next door neighbour had a Ford Mach e.

Now replaced by a petrol Range Rover.

Reason : The car spent more time at the local Ford dealership and the range was terrible.
 
My view (and I an EQA on order) is that Mercedes hybrid and electric cars will be worth very little at 8 years / 100000 miles - because that is the Mercedes battery warranty limit. And I can't see how anyone is going to come up with a decent price aftermarket warranty for an 8 year old battery, so who will want to buy one? (especially as the automotive press gets hold of the issue in due course)

I don't know how long the warranty is on the OP's car, but I hope it us 8 years / 100k miles so that he has cover and keep an eye on resale values to know when to replace it without pain !
