Car
W205 (220d), W213 (350d), and W177 (250e)
Always had a soft spot for the W213. Thing is my top budget is £25k cash and I have seen one on for example, at 85k miles (2018) with a good spec. and FSH. Am I looking for trouble?

Read up about vacuum pump, rocker arms, hatred of short journeys… my commute is night time motorway so that won’t be a problem in terms of short journeys.

Are these engines rock solid and capable of starship mileages?

All thoughts welcome.

More or less average mileage and if proper serviced I don’t see any risk at all , many mls of motoring left in that car , many times I have bought 4 yr olds with around 144000 on them drove them to over 200000 and sold them still going strong , so I can’t complain never had any major problems.

Me again. I think I found one. It’s from a Jaguar dealership. They are providing their own 12 month warranty. Would anyone know how I can go about securing a MB warranty? Would I need to have the car inspected by MB before they authorised warranty? Any information appreciated.

What would it be about an MB warranty that you believe would place it above a JLR main dealer?
The small print had many limitations. Certain mechanical components excluded. Did not read as a robust warranty. Or could look into an alternative such as warranty wise? My fear is if something went wrong that required MB intervention but it was hard ball as the car was not known to them as it had been serviced elsewhere. Whereas if MB checked it and cleared it… In the past I have set aside £200 a month for these things. With my current car I only had to use £800 of that one year. Many options and thoughts.

And you think that the MB warranty doesn't? Other opinions are available.

With warranty off any main dealership or respectable used car dealer it’s same regardless of what brand they sell you if it full warranty it should cover any faults / if it’s a wear and tear issue then none of them will do it free. For instance I have glc bought off M B full warranty after 4 wks asked about squeak from rear of car was told book it in service if they find a genuine fault they will fix it but if they can’t find what’s causing the noise then there will be a charge. Checked it out myself it was lose heat panel over exhaust I put new screws in myself to save taking it to them , yes they would have fixed it free I’m sure but was not willing to take the chance to pay them 1 hrs labour in case they said they found nothing.

I admire your optimism regarding warranties. Have you looked at the list of exclusions?
There is a whole thread here discussing what is reasonable to expect from an MB warranty. Very poor practice by dealership - possibly my last Mercedes | General Discussion
The consensus is its ok that that the warranties are made of swiss cheese.

OP, there are plenty around at approx £25K eg Mercedes Leeds has a 19/19 with 35K miles at your price point.

If you want a good used car warranty look at BMW. Superior to MB, particularly with regard to electrical items and exhaust system.

OP, our friends at Mercland have just got a cracking car in for sale.

I believe car extended warranties are to save the a**e of the motor dealer f anything major goes wrong.
Engine issues , gearbox box issues etc etc.
At present most new cars are fitted with information screens and what will they to repair to cost when they go wrong. I hate to think.
