hi again, please tell me where the engine ecu is located.
is it strapped to the air filter box housing ?
Can one remove the plug and inspect it and clean it if required?
should the battery be disconnected first?

thanks Karl

Yep it’s the big plug to the right of the air box as you face the engine from the front .
I did disconnect the battery when I checked mine .

Why would the OP (and W1ghty and me) want to clean the engine ecu on the M271 engine ?
Is this something I should look at ?
I've had the car about 4 years and I haven't done it yet.

I think at around 80k miles I checked the electrical connections to the cam magnets before fitting the wire blockers , I think there was oil in one of the electrical connections .
I checked the ecu to see if any oil had made it there .
It was a while ago , I forget the timeline of events .

At about 95,000 miles, I changed the cam magnets as they were both leaking.
I fitted the pigtail extensions at that time.
There was not a lot of oil on the connectors or the wiring.
Perhaps I should take a look for reassurance.

I wouldn’t bother , if there was oil in the ecu or the O2 sensor you would have had issues .
