E-320 CDI Elegance 2004, fitted with Avantgarde alloys
I wanted to replace the 16" Elegance wheels on my 2004 E320 CDI with possibly the Ankaa 17" wheels. Current tyres fitted 225/55/16 would be replaced with 245/45/17 to keep everything correct. However looking in the handbook it states the 245/45/17 tyre is only fitted in conjunction with sports suspension or airmatic DC optional equipment to an 8j x 17 ET wheel. So question is would they fit a standard Elegance or is there something about my suspension that would prevent this???

The book is pretty strict but I think it's entirely aesthetic/comfort rather than technical possibility.

You can fit 17" wheels to your car if you want but the ride may be a little more harsh than you're used to and the sidewall area/wheel arch gap may make the car look like it's on stilts ;)

Thanks for the reply, as the car is not fitted with sports suspension I hope that it won't make to ride too harsh from the current level. By taking the wheel up to 17" and taking the tyre from a 55 to a 45 profile it should keep the rolling size the same. The arch gap I don't think would be affected then I hope.......

I have 18" Monoblocs on my 210 and it looks great, but although mine is an Elegance model it has a sports chassis so there is not a large gap in the wheel arch. The ride is also quite lumpy on dodgy road surfaces. If you are local you are more than welcome to take mine for a spin to see if you like the feel of low profile tyres.

The W211 takes W220 size tyres so might be more forgiving with larger diameter wheels as there is more rubber on them than the W210.

we did this , barely noticed the difference :)

Couldnt personally see why you ever needed sports suspension, but we had a classic 220 cdi and put the 17" wheels on it. Was fine.

Ill try and dig a pickie out.
