Happy New Year to all :o

In the next few weeks I will be focusing on ordering a new E class probably a convertible which will replace the Bentley and if its "special" enough maybe the Aston.

My knee jerk reaction is to look at the 500 however its £11.5k over the 350CGI and I keep muttering about nowhere to use the power of either of my cars now so maybe a 350 will do it ? also Im a bit fed up with 10MPG

Can I have some input on anyone who drives a 350CGI in anything please.

If anyone has had a E ragtop just delivered I would like to hear from them - Ive done a search and not come up with anything.

Don't you fancy an "Oil Burner?" I'm getting one soon so can answer your questions then.

After 3 company diesels in my 30`s I swore I would never buy one with my own money - BUT - Im just back from a cheeky week in lanzarote and hired a C70 convertible with Ford 2.0 Diesel and I was impressed.

Maybe I will test drive one ....

If it makes you feel better you can donate the Aston to me ............

I'll live with the fuel

The 350 cgi and cdi have exactly the same performance figures. I dare say the diesel would therefore be a more relaxed car given the vastly superior torque available. And as for the MPG...no contest.

Bentley honeymoon over?

Not at all but it was always an itch to scratch (I posted pics today in the gallery) and possibly a E500 rag with toys could replace the Aston (maybe)

Ive used the Bentley daily apart from in the snow and its been hassle free, no lights on and no issues just 10mpg even less than the CLS55 and the DB9 !!! but its a great laugh and can really move when you wind it up however corners are the issue. Its not the car going round them its the driver staying on / in the seat its madness I slide all over it, I have to brace myself for right handers.

The E coupe / raggy are the first mercs since the CLS was launched that have made me think "spot on" and the raggy is spot on its very classy and clean cut.

Ive totted up the spec on a E350 rag auto and it comes to £48k with essential options (Artico) or £1500 more with real cow.

I also fancy a new car with no (potential) hassle and warranty i dont pay £1500 a year for (Aston) however it wouldnt come till the end of the summer so its not like Im popping out to get it next week :)

I used to have an early Bentley Turbo R and I recognise your description of the handling. If you are used to that and an Aston, go for a 500, it is the manner of power delivery that is critical rather than top performance, and a 350cdi will have similar torque and effortlessness to the Bentley.

, it is the manner of power delivery that is critical rather than top performance, .

I said this before and Im still adamant the SC 5 litre in the CLS55 is a better engine than anything I have ever had or driven, the Aston needs revs (a revvy V12) and the Bentley pulls like a train but weighs the same as a train and scares you as if your driving the train without tracks :D but I miss the CLS55 in the sense I miss the engine and a 6.3 isnt the same DNA if anyone knows what I mean by that - same result is very differing ways

The fastest lorry, as Ettore Bugatti described them in the 20s. Your description certainly brings back some lairy hairy memories of mine! 2 3/4 tons of solid Bentley meeting corners at high speed would at best lead to lots of squealing, wailing and sliding, and that was just from the occupants! Lovely cars, enormous presence and mad engine, but by heavens not for the fainthearted. :)

Don't worry Dave, I'm taking good care of her, but if you ever want to swap with your Aston I might be tempted :thumb:

Hi Andrew
Glad your enjoying it, I wouldnt have fancied driving in the snow but it was probably easier than the Bentley

try the diesel.
