So the E class is with George Fraser for the weekend, hopefully coming back on Monday. It was taken in before with the same complaint as mentioned in an earlier thread, http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=31927. At the time George said that it will be very difficult to diagnose since it's an intermittent fault, and he was very busy before Christmas, so I left it.
In the last week it's actually stalled a number of times in traffic. It's also very loud and jumpy on startup. So I brought it down to George this morning, and he's diagnosed that there is a leak near the injectors, and the seals all need replacing (about £250). The glow plugs also all need changing, although they've needed changing for a wihle - that's another £250. While it's there, I've asked him to also take a look at the ATF, since the gear changes don't seem to be as smooth as they used to - he'll take a sample and if it doesn't look good he'll replace it for around £80.
So, around £600 damage for a start to the year - and that's *before* the service it'll be due in 1000 miles. *sigh*
