Hello everyone, i am suspecting my timing chain is stretched and needs replacing, the car idles quite rough and sounds very loud unlike normal. On cold start the revs tend to bounce quite a lot up and down before going to normal revs.

along with the rough idle, certainly appears to sound like a loose timing chain

Years ago I had a couple of c C180 compressors - the last one that had about 40k on the clock sounded like that first thing in the morning,g particularly cold mornings but within a couple of mins the sound went away - as yours does not, most likely that

I am assuming no fault codes atm, judging by your post - a mechanic can easily check for any excess movement in the chain

Thank you very much for your reply i will get it checked by a mechanic

If it sounds like a clatter for the first few seconds then goes quite after. That definitely sounds like a stretched chain. I would consider getting it checked sooner then later. If the chain skips you are likely into a whole heap of trouble 😵‍💫 😬🫣

The issue with these engines (late variants of the M271) is that the hydraulic timing chain tensioner is leaking, resulting in a stretched chain.

Budget for a new chain, guides, and tensioner, and hope that the camshaft sprocket wheels are fine and do not need replacing.

Then, make sure that you only use MB229.5 engine oil and replace it as per schedule.
