Got an E320 CDi estate in and it will not let us read the codes. In the dash we have a sign saying EPC visit workshop. What is this? Sorry if this is a Sunday dumb question.

I think its a listing of whats on the car etc.
Sorry can't explain it better.

You probably have to input some access code based on the chassis number to interrogate the ECU.

Scratch that:o found this on benzword:- I find out that Volkswagen and other Euro car manufacturers use an "Electronic Power Control" in their gasoline-powered cars which is a fairly complicated system for regulating throttle plate position electronically. The system takes input from accelerator pedal position, engine torque sensors, transmision, brakes, throttle plate location feedback, etc. and then drives the throttle plate motor to the proper position. Presumably, there is a similar functionality for controlling diesel fuel injection. Assuming that the Mercedes EPC is similar, there are quite a number of possible culprits for system malfunction. I'm hoping I get a mechanic at the dealer tomorrow who is willing to take a serious look at the error codes and narrow down the possibilities.

Several people got this or similar messages on their dash. For some the message comes and goes with no rhyme or reason and the car seems no worse for it.

It suggests that there is a problem with the engine induction system. My guess its a generic warning message for the engine injection system (Petrol or diesel). They just didn't bother to program a different message for diesels

I know what you are saying Andy but I have an EPC system at work on my computer. I don't think that your link is anything to do with the error flashed up on the dash.

EPC warning could be triggered by so many things.Could be the dreaded gearbox controller oil contamination or just the brake light switch! Codes need to be read I guess??
