Car is 1997 CLK200 auto 137k miles
After being left unsused for few months, I got the battery recharged and ready for the MOT.
Initially it idles normally at around 800-900rpm, but as time goes by (and presumably engine temp rises) this becomes steady at around 2000rpm.
As this is left it worsens to idling at around 4000rpm and as the engine temp rises above 80 celcius it revs to maximum. I had to battle with the brake pedal to keep the car at normal speeds!!
Called the AA guy, and as he arrives everything was back to normal (this was about an hour after engine was shut). He remarked it could be due to the ECU resetting itself and should cure itself.
After he left and as I took a drive, the whole thing started again. Very scary when you have to really step on the brake pedal to stop the car from very low speeds....
Could anyone shed some light into my problem? Is it ECU related? Mechanical throttle cable?
Oh... and one more thing which may or not be related, about 2yrs/15000 miles ago I had a 2nd hand catalytic convertor installed to replace a shagged one.
Thanks in advance to all
