Hi,

I am new to the forum, but read it quite often.

Got the problem with ESP Control Unit ( ESP failure - visit workshop, than brakes failure, stop the car, red lights), Mercedes dealer said it needs to be replaced as it was replaced 2 years ago and was wired incorrectly so its burned out now.

They already replaced some connections on the back up battery, changed pre fuse box, brakes pump has been replaced 2 years ago.

My car is E 320 CDI 2003

They quoted me for £1800.00 to replace the unit, so I wandering if it can be done cheaper, as it way to much for the car that cost only 4k.

I would appreciate any advise. I live in London.

Andy

Should be covered by a 10 year warranty, speak with a manager or get a second opinion from another dealer.

As the op stated the replacement unit was wired incorrectly i would suspect this would invalidate the warranty?

Well, I did not know it can have a warranty, but its feels that they expect that I can ask for it (I ask to replace a pump under the warranty straight from the beginning), and they blame some one else for the fault. The question is - what I did found out on internet that replacing ESP unit is plug out/plug in process with newer models need a reprogramming, so not sure how you can wire it wrong (unless I am totally wrong). And with labor coming out only £300 out of total bill in the dealer represent may be 1 hour work it did not seams to complected.

If sbc was wired wrong it would not work, let alone work for 2 years and just suddenly decide to stop working, apologies as I didn't read your post I glanced over it, I'd still go to another dealer for an opinion. Otherwise your stuck in a rut really, they are plug and play if you match the numbers, but you will need someone with a diagnostic machine that communicates with sbc.

I guess if they know that this part has been replaced it has been done on the Mercedes dealer. Will talk to them tomorrow.

Just and update from above.
The Mercedes said that the esp has been replaced 2 years ago so its fine, but esp control unit needs to be replaced as its burned out. So I spoke to the independent garage they said that they could fit the unit and re-program it. Now the electrician has checked the car, he said he can't do it.

Is anyone can recommend specialist in the SW London area.
