C Class
on a recent 2hour drive returning from Devon the 3yr old silencer on my 2004 Merc c class shed a handful of fibres. Theŕe appears to be no change in the exhaust sound or performance. What should I do?

If it's soft, material-like padding, it could be from the back box maybe?
My guess if it is the back box is the baffle/internal plates have corroded and allowed some padding to be blown out.

Regardless, if it's the back box or the cat, both can result in sufficient blockage for ECU to throw a code and go into limp mode. Usually at a particularly inconvenient time (miles away from home, dark, raining, bank holiday weekend etc). The whole exhaust can be dropped and disassembled so the garage looking at it can assess the correct area for the fault.

If it's the cat, get a price from Merc, who might be competitive. I find aftermarket exhausts don't fit well or last well, unless they are from an exhaust specialist who will make it to fit correctly.

It wont be from the CAT. Its very likely to be from the rear box. Either pull it all out or get a new one.
