Hi Guys

after a short drive this mornining i felt on my left leg extreme heat coming through the trouser leg. I felt the side of the transmission tunnel and it was very hot to touch. the heat was only on the driver side and not anywhere else. I have no idea what would cause this. the only thing was I was driving in sport mode for a change. Normally i dont bother.

Has Anyone else experienced this?

Check the settings on the heater controls in the rear of the car. If they're set on hot, with a high fan speed, then that may explain it. We had this a week or two ago in an ML. HTH

photo to show where the heat was coming from

just checked, rear temp is set at 20 degrees, which is in line with the front (non zone setting)

Just a thought but could it be heat from the cat on the exhaust underneath - if it's as hot as you say it's got to be easy enough to spot it you took it to a garage :)

i will take it out later and try to see if I can replicate the fault

I think you are correct. just driven the car again. heat returns on the same patch. I checked the rear vents (set to 20 degrees) and the passenger side is pumping out air at the correct temperature but the rear vent on the driver side is pumping out hot air not related to the temperature. all other vents in the front are working correctly. So it appears we have an issue with the air con feeding hot air to the rear right vent only.
Did you manage a fix on the ML or leave it running hot?

Might be a problem with the air flow switching duct flaps sticking- there's a servo motor/s involved?

I did, but unfortunately it won't be helpful for you given what you have described: I just told my daughter to check the temperature, and then tblooming turn it down!

I've just found this thread. I've got exactly the same issue in my 2009 E350 CDI coupe.

Did you ever resolve the issue?

Got my car back from MSL at the weekend and this issue is now fixed.

It was the rod that goes to the heater flap had come off.

Hi Mark, I have seen your post. I have the same issue with my 2008 W204 and wondered if MB mentioned whereabouts the rod had come off the heater flap? Many thanks

Hi. No I'm afraid not.

Unfortunately the repair didn't last . So when the car was next in being serviced I was told a new part needed to be ordered but when I tried to chase for an update I didn't get anyway. So I have given up and just live with it now by keeping the rear heater vent closed.

Thank you for letting me know.
