I need to replace a faulty rear parking sensor on my 2007 facelift W211. Despite trying, I've not been able to find the necessary part number to order a new one. Could somebody please let me know what it is, or provide a link to something suitable?

Many thanks.

Have you got your VIN handy? There seem to be a few variatioins

There's so many variations to these that I couldn't order one until I removed my old one. I bought an after market one which works a treat.

Just been out, jack-up the car, reached in behind the bumper, had a fiddle (ooer!), and out it popped!
Numbers galore written on it!
A221 542 04 17
0 263 003 245 965
04572B 060625/Q5

So next question, is there much to choose between the various manufacturers? Cheap and cheerful, mid-price, or Bosch it all the way!?

I went with Bosch from ECP, I needed 3 replacements.

Okay, so I got the replacement sensor, swapped it over, started the car, with great expectation, only to be told, 'Computer says 'No!'' ARGHHH!!!!
Thinking logically, I tried swapping other sensors, still the same fault persists, which the diagnostic machine is telling me is either a dirty / lose connection - unlikely as I have had it apart and refitted the sensor, or a fault sensor/faulty wire. So, my guess is now that there's a broken wire somewhere in the system.

So, can anybody, please, tell me where the wiring for the rear, left inner sensor would run? I'm wondering if it might possibly be in the same area as the wiring for the boot release, which broke a few months ago? Co-incidence? Maybe, maybe not. Hmm....

What do you think, folks?

I now have the rear bumper off - what a faff trying to get the nuts inside the wheel lining - and can't see anything obvious. I Part of me is wondering whether it would be worth getting a new loom (A2114404007Q1) to see if that helps, or is that likely to be a waste of time? Anyone got any ideas?

have now ordered a new wiring loom for the rear sensor in the bumper. I'm hoping that rectifies things, otherwise I'm going to have to call upon somebody else to do it. :(

Update:

Replaced the sensor - no joy. Tried swapping sensors around - no joy, still the same error message.
Replaced the wiring loom for the sensors in the bumper - no joy, although my iCarSoft is no longer giving a fault code, yet I'm still getting the four red lights.

Anybody got any ideas before my head explodes!? Is it worth getting a new control module, maybe a guaranteed one from a trusted eBay seller, to see it that finally does the job?

If i can't fix it, I'll have to get the indie to take a look, which is then yet more money, on top of him trying to solve the mysterious ABS/ESP/BAS, etc... fault that keeps coming on.

do the new sensors needs coding to the car?
I've not heard of that being necessary. Besides which, surely the error would move with the sensor when I swapped working sensors around?

So, I've put it all back together again, and the original fault code is showing again! I have ordered a replacement control unit from eBay to try next. As it is from a donor vehicle, and .want to have been tested to ensure it's working, is it possible to just swap the units over, or will the replacement need programming to my specific vehicle?

all the money you’ve spent changing parts you could have got a professional diagnosis and repair done ;)

I've not actually spent a massive amount on parts. As for a professional diagnosis and repair, well I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Take the gear stick surround off and pull the plug.

And the final verdict is in!

The ECP sold parking sensor was crap! Once replaced with an OEM one, where my diagnostic machine said, everything was fine again.

I shall be returning to ECP with the other sensor and asking for a refund!
