Has anyone got a logical answer as to why the fan blades on my coolant fan are in asymmetrical order attached ??
Can't think of any reason for that 8-/

Might be to reduce noise.

It is to reduce noise. I just did a search and it's quite common, they even do this on laptop cooling fans

Wow, didn't think of that ....
Doesn't it put uneven load on the bearing ?
I wonder how 'they' (whoever they are ) found out about it ...

The fan is still balanced overall so I imagine the bearings will be fine. I don't know where it originated but someone was thinking about harmonics as the asymmetry will disturb the harmonics and resonance of a normal fan blade.

Its to reduce mechanical resonance or noise.
Now you use even fan blades to create a siren like the coming of the blitz attack and run for cover of my parents generation......In any case it's all covered by a US "pah tent" (not "pay-tent") # Patent US5681145 o_O
In other words the Yanks were off to the " fan races" (no pun intended) before the Germans ! ;)

The Patent doc makes interesting reading !
I guess he had a well equipped shed and lots of time to figure this out (-:

Well its actually ITT--itt automotive electrical systems inc who file lots of patents on all sorts of ideas & innovations in industry!

I would say they have a bloody big shed and lots of people working that out. That stated it seems (historically speaking) finding or getting that "eureka moment" in a shed at the bottom of the garden is a very Brit thing.
Sir Edward Jenner comes to mind with a smallpox vaccine in my native Gloucestershire!
