My Fan control module on my 2000 CLK has internal burn marks.
My question is can I buy any old module as I can not find one with exactly the same serial numbers. Q-04.

I have bought a £10 one with Q-05 and I will try it.

Will it work if it has a different number? Is it a coding issue, or for AC vs non AC cars

The last photo is the cheap one I bought.

Thank you

Any one?
Any ideas please on whether it is essential that it is replaced with an exact item?

any ideas if this issue has been discussed before?

That looks like it will work fine.
The connections are battery, earth, motor+, motor-, ignition (15) and pwm (pulse width modulation) which will be fan speed control.
So, purely a guess, that is a dumb motor speed regulator.
Fwiw, it looks like one of the motor power transistors has burnt out on the old one.
I’d give it a go, but make sure the motor isn’t seized.
