Afternoon all

Scanned my car today and pulled code P1856 out if it which is described as Selector Lever Position Detection has failed.

Anyone on here had the same code? If so how did you rectify it?

The problem I'm having at the moment is that the gear lever won't go into reverse after shifting into drive. So I have to turn car off in neutral and shift into park then into reverse if I need to park. Which is as annoying as it sounds.

Cheers.

As far as I am aware there is no adjustment on the gear selector. I would pull the cover off and have a look round, you may find something loose or maybe a sensor that has failed. Sorry I can't be more help but I have never had a gearshift problem.

As above, there is no mechanical adjustment, the gear lever is merely a switch. Has anything been spilt on the console?

Even if not then removing the gear lever surround and checking the connectors and using a good quality electrical switch cleaner may help. If not then a replacement surround from a known working car on Ebay etc may well be worth a try.

No nothing has been spilt on the console, well not during my ownership anyways. Yeah I'll try the connector cleaner first then I guess I'll have to source a new unit if they doesn't work.

Second hand from a similar vehicle if known working should be plug and play?

Should be a straight swop if that is the problem. Check for the same part number etc.
